Thursday’s games

District 2-5A Division I

Lubbock Coronado (3-6, 2-3) at Tascosa (8-1, 5-0), 7 p.m., Dick Bivins Stadium
Tascosa already owns the No. 1 seed in district and now has the chance to become the first Rebs team to win an outright district title since 1988. The only way Coronado can make the playoffs is beat Tascosa and see Caprock and Amarillo High lose. So these Mustangs will be a feisty bunch. Tascosa looked so good against Lubbock Cooper. I don’t see an upset here unless a rash of turnovers hit Tascosa. … Tascosa 35, Coronado 14

Amarillo High (4-5, 2-3) at Lubbock Monterey (0-9, 0-4), 7 p.m.
Amarillo High is in a crazy mess when it comes to playoff scenarios. It could win and still be out of the playoffs. But bottom line is this: if AHS beats Monterey then Coronado and Caprock lose, AHS is the No. 3 seed. Look it, AHS has been riding a roller-coaster of ups and downs all year. It needs to take care of business on the field and just see what happens. … Amarillo High 21, Lubbock Monterey 14

District 1-2A Division II

Boys Ranch (4-5, 0-3) at Booker (4-4, 0-3), 7 p.m.
Though both have struggled through district this game means everything. It’s simple. The winner goes to the playoffs and the winner puts on basketball sneakers. … Booker 26, Boys Ranch 21

District 1-1A Division II

Lefors (0-8, 0-3) at Darrouzett (1-7, 0-3), 7 p.m.
This is a pride game for both teams as they are out of the playoff hunt but both teams want to finish the season on a high note.  The Pirate ship will sail away with this one. … Lefors 64, Darrouzett 32

Hedley (4-5, 2-1) at Silverton (6-3, 2-1), 7 p.m.
It’s the Battle of the Owls for a playoff spot. The road Owls will keep it close early, but the home team is just too talented. … Silverton 60, Hedley 14

District 4-1A Division I

Vernon Northside (4-5, 0-2) at Valley (4-5, 0-2), 7:30 p.m.
The season of what could have been comes to an end for the Patriots.  Injuries derailed a talented team, and they will take out their frustration on the Indians. …  Valley 72, Vernon Northside 12

Friday’s games

District 2-5A Division I

Lubbock Cooper (7-2, 4-1) at Caprock (5-4, 2-3), 7 p.m., Dick Bivins Stadium
Caprock is catching a ticked off Cooper team which saw its 25-game district winning streak end last week. But regardless if Cooper wins or loses it’s the No. 2 seed and hosts a playoff game next week. Caprock has everything to play for here. If the Rock wins and AHS and Coronado lose, Caprock is playoff bound as the No. 4 seed. Call me a homer all you want, but I see the upset here because Caprock can defend the run and Cooper has nothing to play for. … Caprock 17, Cooper 13

District 2-5A Division II

Palo Duro (2-7, 1-3) at Plainview (3-6, 1-3), 7 p.m., Greg Sherwood Memorial Bulldog Stadium
Oh my, a poem is reserved for the biggest of games; This one in is it, the winner puts playoffs by their names. The Dons played their best last week, coming up a tad short; Plainview is pretty good defending their home fort. Mims will have the Dons sky high for this one. So, chalk it up, PD’s bus ride back to Amarillo so fun. … Palo Duro 34, Plainview 25

– Lance Lahnert
– Last week: 3-1 (.750)
– Season: 25-9 (.735)

District 3-4A Division I

Hereford (1-8, 1-2) at Dumas (5-4, 1-2), 7 p.m.
A week ago, no logical person would have thought this game would have any impact on the playoff picture, except maybe for seeding. Now, the winner will go to the postseason, no questions asked. Hereford carries the most momentum, as the Whitefaces shocked No. 1 seed Randall for their first win and stayed in the playoff picture. That should be a wake-up call to a Dumas team who lost a heartbreaker to Canyon. Playing their final home game, the Demons should see a sense of urgency kick in. Hereford is done with a loss. Experience will help Dumas a lot. … Dumas 41, Hereford 21

Canyon (8-1, 2-1) at Pampa (5-4, 1-2), 7 p.m.
Canyon clinched a playoff berth by beating Dumas on a last-second field goal last week and the Eagles will claim the No. 2 seed with a win. They may have to deal with a hangover against a Pampa team which has a smaller margin for error and will be eliminated with a loss and a Hereford win. This one might not take long since there should be a lot of running the ball, with freshman sensation Max Neff leading Pampa’s ground game, and Canyon likely preferring to run with a backup quarterback. A better defense gives the Eagles the edge. … Canyon 31, Pampa 21

District 2-4A Division II

Seminole (8-1, 3-0) at Perryton (3-6, 2-1), 7 p.m.
Both teams are headed to the playoffs in what could be seen as a district championship game, with the loser possibly slipping to a No. 3 seed. There’s potential for a lot of points here, and Perryton has improved offensively since the start of district play. The Rangers will also have emotion on their side for their final home game. But Seminole has been the class of the district from day one, and the Indians have been hard to stop. It should be an entertaining game, but Seminole has too much firepower. … Seminole 35, Perryton 24

Borger (2-7, 0-3) at West Plains (5-4, 2-1), 7 p.m.
West Plains is able to celebrate a playoff berth in its first year of existence and the Wolves will clinch the No. 2 seed with a win and will be no worse than the No. 3 seed. Borger is playing strictly for pride and to avoid a winless district season. West Plains may have to avoid a bit of rust after drawing the open week last week. The Wolves could face a challenge from the Bulldogs defensively, and it could be an entertaining offensive game. But it should be a happy ending to their first regular season. … West Plains 35, Borger 20

– Lee Passmore
– Last week: 1-2 (.333)
– Season: 38-12 (.760)

District 2-3A Division I

Dalhart (4-4, 1-2) at Muleshoe (6-3, 1-2), 7 p.m.
The winner of this game takes third out of the district while the loser gets the fourth and final spot. Give me Muleshoe close at home. … Muleshoe 27, Dalhart 23

Shallowater (8-1, 3-0) at River Road (2-7, 0-3), 7 p.m.
The Mustangs take the outright district crown with a win. River Road is hoping to end the season on a high note. … Shallowater 42, River Road 14

District 3-3A Division II

Friona (5-4, 3-1) at Childress (5-4, 3-1), 7 p.m.
The Bobcats are starting to find themselves with the playoffs looming. The Chieftains are also playing good football. The winner gets the No. 2-seed outright. … Childress 37, Friona 22

Tulia (3-6, 1-3) at Spearman (2-7, 1-3), 7 p.m.
Here’s another scenario where the winner is in, and the loser is done. Last year, Spearman foiled Tulia’s attempt at the playoffs. Will lightning strike twice? … Spearman 21, Tulia 20

Dimmitt (0-9, 0-4) at Canadian (7-2, 4-0), 7 p.m.
The Wildcats close the regular season out on a six-game win streak and the outright district champions. … Canadian 47, Dimmitt 6

District 1-2A Division I

Farwell (8-1, 3-1) at Panhandle (7-2, 3-1), 7 p.m.
Farwell will want to keep the ball away from Landyn Hack as much as possible and limit Panhandle possessions. That can be easier said than done but expect a physical showcase with the victor taking second place behind Stratford. … Panhandle 32, Farwell 27

Sanford-Fritch (1-8, 1-3) at Highland Park (2-7, 1-3), 7 p.m.
The records might not indicate it but there is a lot on the line at Highland Park on Friday night. The Eagles and Hornets will have a battle for the fourth and final playoff spot. … Highland Park 28, Sanford-Fritch 22

District 1-2A Division II

Sunray (8-1, 3-0) at Vega (5-4, 3-0), 7 p.m.
Sunray’s high-powered offense will get a stiff test against a big, physical defense in Vega. The Bobcats defense will be called upon to help the offense get rolling. In the end let’s lean toward Sunray taking the outright district crown. … Sunray 27, Vega 20

District 2-2A Division II

Wellington (8-1, 4-0) at Clarendon (7-2, 4-0), 7 p.m.
Last year the Broncos made their way to Wellington and stunned the Skyrockets to take the district championship. Once again, this clash is for a district title with a great story behind it. The mighty Wellington defense against Clarendon’s outstanding Jmaury Davis and the Clarendon offense. Whoever wins in the trenches wins this matchup. … Wellington 30, Clarendon 16

Shamrock (6-3, 2-2) at Memphis (5-4, 2-2), 7 p.m.
Both teams are in the playoffs now it’s just a matter of who is getting the third place. … Shamrock 45, Memphis 14

Wheeler (1-8, 0-4) at Quanah (1-8, 0-4), 7 p.m.
With both teams eliminated from playoff contention, both the Mustangs and Indians are playing for pride before hoop season. … Wheeler 27, Quanah 20

District 3-2A Division II

Lockney (2-7, 1-3) at Bovina (3-6, 2-2), 7 p.m.
Bovina needs a win to clinch a playoff spot and then let the night playout to where they land in the district race. … Bovina 29, Lockney 13

– Kale Steed
– Last week: 14-0 (1.000)
– Season 115-24 (.827)

District 1-1A Division I

Follett (8-1, 2-0) at McLean (7-2, 1-1), 7 p.m.
In the wild a Tiger would win a fight with a Panther almost every time.  However, that doesn’t hold true on this football field. … Follett 56, McLean 27

Miami (6-3, 1-1) at White Deer (5-4, 0-2), 7 p.m.
The Bucks have their back against the wall as they need a win to have a shot at the playoffs, but the more talented Warriors send the home team to the gym in this one. … Miami 68, White Deer 48

District 2-1A Division I

Happy (8-1, 2-0) at Claude (4-5, 1-1), 7 p.m.
The Mustangs would love to pull the upset but the Cowboys are gearing up for a potential playoff run. … Happy 64, Claude 16
