The University Interscholastic League released its conference cutoff numbers for the 2022-23 and 2023-24 reclassification and realignment on Wednesday morning.

The question of will Palo Duro drop down into Class 5A Division II was quickly answered when the numbers dropped… with a yes.

Palo Duro turned in 1,888 students on snap shot day in late October. The new realignment number for Conference 5A Division II and above goes from 1,300-1,924, putting the Dons 36 students below the new reclassification number.

Tascosa, Amarillo High and Caprock will all stay in Class 5A Division I.

The new realignment number for Conference 5A Division I is 1925 to 2,224. Tascosa turned in 2,185, Amarillo High is at 2,173, and Caprock came in at 2,108.

As expected, Randall moves down into Class 4A Division I. With the addition of West Plains High School expected to open in the fall of 2022, Randall only turned in a number of 1,173 students. The Raiders will join rival Canyon, Dumas, Hereford, and Pampa of the Texas Panhandle teams from that classification. The Conference 4A Division I number set by the UIL was 880-1,299.

West Plains will start in Class 4A Division II after a soft turn in of 865 students expected to attend the new school in the fall.

Notes

Palo Duro and Randall weren’t the only Texas Panhandle school to make a move Tuesday.

Highland Park turned in 244 students, which drops the Hornets from Class 3A Division II to Class 2A Division I.

Stratford will also move up to Class 2A Division I, turning in 176 students.

In Class 1A, Follett, Miami, and Wildorado all moved up to Division I.

No Amarillo-area schools moving down. This should create quite a shuffle in district alignments in February.
