Top 10 Texas Panhandle football performers from Week 9

Nathan White, Randall, QB, Sr.

White continues to show great leadership and improvement each week and it showed once again on Friday night as the senior helped Randall stay unbeaten in District 3-4A Division I by beating rival Canyon 31-14. White was efficient in the pocket going of 12-of-19 for 174 yards with a pair of touchdown passes.

Armando Lujan & Damian Barragan, Sunray, QB-WR

Lujan and Barragan made school history in a 56-12 thumping at Gruver on Friday. Lujan is having a sophomore season to remember as he blistered the Greyhounds secondary throwing for a school-record 485 yards on 24-of-40 passes with five touchdowns. Lujan also used his speed for 143 yards on 14 carries for three more scores. Lujan wasn’t the only one setting school-records. Barragan made use of all those passes snagging 10 catches for a new record of 239 yards with three TDs.

Darian DeLaRosa, Bovina, RB, Sr.

The senior leader makes this top 10 list for the second week in a row after another unbelievable performance. DeLaRosa put the Mustangs on his back in a 32-14 win over Hale Center to put Bovina in a prime position at making the postseason. On offense, the running back toted the rock 31 times for 276 yards with two rushing TDs. On the defensive side of the ball, he returned a fumble 43-yards for a touchdown on top of 15 tackles with 11 of those solo, a sack, and an interception.

Damian Cedillo, Tulia, RB, Sr.

The Hornets snapped a three-game losing skid beating Dimmitt 56-15 while keeping themselves in the playoffs behind Cedillo’s skillful running attack. Dimmitt didn’t have an answer for the senior speedster as Cedillo ran up and down the field for 302 yards on 25 carries, averaging 12 yards a carry, with six touchdowns.

Ke’Mauri Pinkard, Tascosa, WR-DB, Sr.

Pinkard was clutch on both sides of the ball as Tascosa clinched a Class 5A playoff spot holding off an upset bid from Caprock 34-28 in overtime. Pinkard had a 64-yard catch for a score on the offense, and on defense Pinkard made two key interceptions, had a pass breakup with four tackles.

Dominguez is starting to break out and give quarterback Camren Cavalier another weapon in Canadian’s fast-paced offense. Dominguez had his second straight 100-yard receiving game in a 56-13 victory over Friona, as the sophomore snagged five catches for 162 yards and two touchdowns.

Parker Dunnam, Dumas, DB, Sr.

The son of Dumas head coach Aaron Dunnam had himself quite the defensive effort as the Demons earned their first district win downing Pampa 21-7. Dunnam made an impressive 12 tackles against the Harvesters with two of those for a loss and a pass breakup.

Jordi Hernandez, West Plains, RB, Jr. 

Hernandez is really finding his groove as is his West Plains Wolves. West Plains is the talk of the 2022 season as they downed Perryton in a thrilling 45-42 road win on Friday to go 5-4 overall and 2-1 in district. Hernandez showed true grit in the victory running for 173 yards on 32 carries with two scores.

Da’reon Mathis, Childress, RB, Jr. 

Mathis has put together back-to-back weeks of going over the century mark. The junior bulldozer ran strong in a 41-7 home victory against Spearman toting the ball 17 times for 191 yards and finding the end zone three times.

Alec Actkinson & Corey Stancell, Farwell, QB-RB

Acktinson and Stancell were galloping up and down Highland Park on Friday night. When the dust settled on a 54-12 victory the 1-2 punch had combined for 243 yards and six touchdowns. Actkinson ran the rock only seven times for 232 yards with a pair of TDs, while Stancell carried it 16 times for 201 yards and four scores.
