Thursday’s H.S. Volleyball playoff roundup: Canyon, Pampa, Bushland cruise to area round

District 4-4A showed of its strength as Canyon and Pampa each dominated opponents from District 3-4A to open the Class 4A playoffs Thursday night.

The Lady Eagles, a No. 3-seed from 4-4A, had no issues with second place Big Spring from 3-4A, earning a 25-11, 25-9, 25-16, bidistrict victory at Frenship.

Pampa, the fourth and final seed from 4-4A, was equally impressive by handling District 3-4A champion Snyder in a 25-14, 25-12, 25-13, sweep in a bidistrict match at Childress.

Canyon moves to 15-5 overall on the season, while the Lady Harvesters go to 15-10.

In the Lady Eagles sweep of Big Spring (13-15) outside hitter Carlee Henderson made a game-high 14 kills followed by Raylee Bain’s 12. Setter Ryne Roden did her job handing out 38 assists.

In Pampa’s win against Snyder (12-17) sophomore hitter Mikalie Floyd led the way with 11 kills and two blocks. Celest Ostercamp and Haley Fossett were great hitting the hardwood for Pampa. Ostercamp tallied a game-high 18 digs while Fossett added 14 digs.

Bushland downs Tulia

As expected the No. 3-ranked Bushland Lady Falcons cruised at home taking out Tulia thanks to a 25-14, 25-9, 25-11 sweep in a Class 3A bidistrict round matchup Thursday.

Bushland is now 25-2 overall. Tulia ends its year at 7-17.

Kinley Rudder and Hallie Conklin combined for 23 kills in the match, as teammates Taryn Schultz and Logan Culpepper dished out a combined 47 assists.
