Tascosa opened District 2-6A play exactly how it wanted to rolling up 528 yards on the ground on the way to a 63-6 blowout win against Midland High on a blustery Thursday night at Dick Bivins Stadium.

The Bulldogs (1-5, 0-1) simply didn’t have an answer for the Rebels option attack, setting the tone on the opening drive of the game.

Tascosa needed only three plays to march 75 yards in 46 seconds to get on the board.

That first score came on an 11-yard run by Darius Sanders, giving the Rebels a 7-0 lead they’d never relinquish.

From there, quarterback Joseph Plunk and his plethora of backs put on an offensive exhibition, taking a commanding 42-0 lead into halftime, chewing up 322 rushing yards on 30 carries in the first 30 minutes.

It didn’t matter who touched the ball against Midland High. Tascosa had 14 different backs get carries behind the Rebels dominating offensive line. Plunk and fullback Parker settle each went over 100 yards rushing. Settle finished with 11 carries for 121 yards, and seven different running backs found the endzone in the game.

With a 143 yards rushing against the Bulldogs, Tascosa signal caller Joseph Plunk is quickly closing the gap to a 1,000 yards. The lightning quick dual-threat QB is at 979 yards for the season. Plunk rushed it 14 times in the game with two touchdowns on the ground while throwing for two more.

Tascosa improves to 5-1 overall but more importantly 1-0 in District 2-6A. The Rebels hit the road to battle rival Odessa Permian at 7:30 p.m. Oct. 18, at Ratliff Stadium.

Midland High falls to 1-5 overall and 0-1 in district. The Bulldogs play at Frenship on Oct. 18, at 7:30 p.m.

Putnam ran through the LHS scoring all four Caprock second half touchdowns. Putnam’s score came on runs of 35, eight, seven and two yards.

The hard working Putnam ended the game with 135 yards on 15 carries.

Coyotes stifle Raiders in district opener

It was another frustrating performance for the Randall offense as the Raiders dropped their District 3-5A Division II opener 27-10 to Wichita Falls High on Thursday night at Memorial Stadium.

Randall scored all 10 points in the first half, but were blanked in the final two quarters to a stingy Coyotes defense. The Raiders had cut the deficit to 14-10 when quarterback Jakobe Norman found Brayden Beck on an 18-yard pitch and catch with 56 seconds remaining in the second quarter.

That was as close as Randall could get as the WFHS defense limited the Raiders to 78 yards in the second half and only 194 yards for the game.

The Coyotes broke the game open in the third quarter on a Zy Gravitt 9-yard touchdown pass to Zach Williams, for his third his third TD catch of the game.

Williams hauled in five catches for 89 yards while Gravitt finished 18 of 27 for 177 yards and three touchdowns.

Randall falls to 1-5 overall and 0-1 in District 3-5A. The Raiders return home to face Plainview on Oct. 18, at 7 p.m.

WFHS moves to 2-4 overall and 1-0 in district. The Coyotes host Abilene Wylie next Thursday at 7 p.m.
