Texas Panhandle teams highlight boys and girls TABC Preseason poll

The Texas Panhandle was well represented during the release of the 2019-2020 Texas Association of Basketball Coaches Preseason Poll on Tuesday.

Nine girls teams and six boys squads from the Amarillo-area are ranked in the Top 25 throughout all classifications.

On the girls side, it was the traditional powers getting the most respect.

Amarillo High and Nazareth earned No. 1-rankings, and deservingly so.

The Lady Sandies are the two-time defending state champs in Class 5A while the Swiftettes have won three straight Class 1A state titles.

On the boys side, Gruver came in at the highest spot of all Texas Panhandle teams. The Greyhounds, who were a state-runner up last season, are ranked No. 2 in the preseason poll.

Nazareth, a state tournament team last season, came in at No. 4 in Class 1A.
