Class 5A

AHS holds off Coronado

It wasn’t easy by any means, but the Amarillo High Lady Sandies fought their way to the Class 5A area round after getting a 12-7 win in 11 innings during a decisive Game 3 over Lubbock Coronado in a bidistrict series that concluded on Saturday.

It’s only the second time in program history the Lady Sandies have advanced to the second round.

AHS took Game 1 Friday night, 8-4, in Lubbock, only to see Coronado bounce back with a 6-1 Game 2 victory at the Lady Sandies Complex. In the win or take all Game 3, AHS broke a 6-6 tie in the top of the 11th highlighted by a 3-run double from Tessia Guzman, as the Lady Sandies posted six runs in the inning to get the victory. Guzman was clutch all afternoon going 4-for-6 in the contest. Danae Lopez also had a big day going 3-for-6 with a homer and three RBIs.

Randall holds off Lubbock-Cooper

Randall is headed to the area round after beating Lubbock-Cooper in the rubber matchup, 9-7, in a Class 5A bidistrict series on Friday night at Lubbock-Cooper.

The Lady Raiders took the first game at home Thursday, 9-6. Cooper battled back for a 10-9 win in Game 2 on Friday, but Randall held off the Lady Pirates for a 9-7 win in the night cap.

Anberlin O’Dell homered and drove in a pair of runs in the Game 3 victory. Teammate Jacelyn Cornwall added a pair of RBIs as well.

Randall (22-12-1) is headed to the area round to face El Paso Hanks.

Class 4A

Canyon gets past Levelland

Canyon got a little more than it bargained for against Levelland in the Class 4A bidistrict round, but the Lady Eagles were able to win both games Friday to advance.

The Lady Lobos stunned the District 4-4A champions by rallying Thursday night at home for a 13-9 win. Canyon then came together back at the Double Eagle Sports Complex on Friday, taking down Levelland with a 6-2 victory in Game 2, followed by a 19-8 win in Game 3 to take the series.

Berkley Bradley had a huge series going a combined 7-for-9 in the final two games with a homer and a triple, combining for five RBIs.

Catcher Maison Guerra had six RBIs in Game 3, adding a homer with a double.

Canyon (24-10) advances back to the area round to face Midland Greenwood.

Dumas shocks Big Spring

The Dumas Demonettes made it a clean sweep of District 3-4A champion, Big Spring, getting a 7-4 win on Thursday, followed by a hard fought 4-2 victory on Friday in the Class 4A bidistrict round.

Dumas is now 24-12 overall.

The Demonettes, who were the No. 4-seed, used strong pitching from Briana Vargas. Vargas worked all 14 innings of the series racking up five strikeouts, and allowing four earned runs. Shortstop Jessa Fry had a pair of RBIs and a double in the series sweep.

Pampa sweeps Snyder

After getting a convincing 14-3 in a Game 1 win of its Class 4A bidistrict series, Pampa had to use dramatics to earn the sweep of Snyder in a 9-7 Game 2 victory.

With the score tied, 7-7, on Friday night, Lady Harvesters catcher, Briana Cloud, drilled a 2-run walk-off home run in the bottom of the ninth to send Pampa (25-7-1) to the area round. The game-winning homer was a part of a monster series for Cloud who was a combined 7-for-8 at the dish, adding two homers, a triple, a double, and eight RBIs.

Class 3A

Bushland dominates Shallowater

The Bushland Lady Falcons cruised to the second round with a pair of shutouts against Shallowater on Thursday.

The Lady Falcons won the first game 4-0, followed by a 9-0 blanking of the Fillies in Game 2.

Bushland (27-8) advances to the area round to play Littlefield.

Brylee Adams and Jillian Howell were dominating in the circle. In Game 1, Adams tossed seven shutout innings with 12 K’s. In the Game 2 win, Howell also went the distance with five strikeouts.

At the plate, Abby Howell went a combined 3-for-6 with a homer and two RBIs.

River Road slams the door on Slaton

River Road had no problems with Slaton in the Class 3A bidistrict round getting a 14-4 win, followed by an 11-6 victory for the sweep.

It’s the first time since 2018 that the Lady Wildcats advance to the area round, where River Road (22-10-1) will now play Presidio.

Carolyn Koval hit two home runs in the series for the Lady Wildcats, totaling seven RBIs. Teammate Ava Sharp went a combined 6-for-9 with a pair of runs driven in
