AHS takes down Timberview
Behind another stellar defensive effort, No. 6 Amarillo High passed a big test downing No. 4 Mansfield Timberview in impressive fashion, 54-34, in a Class 5A regional semifinal on Tuesday in Burkburnett.
The Sandies (23-2 overall) advance to the Region 1-5A finals for the first time since 2018, and will now face Mansfield Summit at a time and place to be determined.
Defense is what AHS hangs its hat on, and they proved it again against talented Timberview. The Sandies held the Wolves to 15 points at half, holding a double-digit, 27-15 lead.
In the second half, Timberview did its best to rally cutting the margin at 36-28 by the end of the third, before AHS dominated the fourth quarter. The Sandies outscored the Wolves 19-6 in the final eight minutes, locking down Timberview from getting any offensive momentum.
Junior standout Brendan Hausen did the damage for AHS racking up a game-high 25 points, followed by teammate Chris Dees, who poured in 12.

Clarendon one step closer to regional crown
The Clarendon Broncos defense was sufficating during a 51-29 thumping of Christoval in the Class 2A regional semifinals Tuesday night in Slaton.
The Broncos never trailed taking a 33-10 lead going into the halftime break. The scoring came off of an electric second quarter where Clarendon outscored Christoval 23-6 on the way to the big halftime advantage.
Christoval would play Claredon closely in the second half, actually outsourcing the Broncos 19-18, but the hill was too steep for a comeback. Clarendon was led by sophomore post Jmaury Davis and his 18 points which led all scorers.
Clarendon (23-4 overall) returns to the Region I-2A finals for since 2017. The Broncos will now face unbeaten Wink (27-0) at 7 p.m. Friday in Littlefield. The Wildcats advanced with an 82-69 win against Panhandle on Tuesday night at Frenship. — Tommy King

Texline survives late scare from Jaybirds
Texline had to hold off a last second attempt by Jayton as time expired to take home a thrilling 57-55 win in a Class 1A regional semifinal Tuesday night at Canyon High School.
Texline got off to a quick start with the help of 6-foot-6 sophomore Noel Lozano. Lozano picked up six of the teams first eight points. The Tornadoes led 12-4 after the first, but the determined Jaybirds were on their heels closing out the half with two consecutive 3-pointers to take their first lead of the game. With a quick response Texline took back the lead going into the break at 25-24.
Texline’s offense exploded in the third for 23 points on the back of William Luther’s nine points in the quarter followed by a hot-handed Straton Potter who hit two 3-pointers in the third alone.
Down 48-35 coming into the fourth quarter, the Jaybirds went to their All-State forward Tripp Scott. Scott, who led all scorers with 23, went on to score 11 fourth quarter points en route to bringing his team all the way back to only trailing by two in the final moments.
With six seconds on the clock, Scott was forced to pass up the ball to teammate Nate Williams who missed the game-tying 12-footer at the buzzer.
Texline (23-4) now finds themself in the Region I-1A final for the first time since 2015. The Tornadoes will take on the Paducah Dragons (18-1) at 7 p.m. Friday in Dimmitt.

Paducah knocks off Nazareth
For the first time in three years it won’t be the Nazareth Swifts representing Region I in San Antonio.
The Swifts were unseated by Paducah in a hard fought, 47-42, win by the Dragons in a Class 1A regional semifinal in Frenship on Monday night.
The loss snaps a Nazareth four-game winning streak in the regional semi’s, as the Swifts see a solid season come to an end at 23-10. Paducah (18-1) advances to the regional final where they’ll matchup against Texline (23-4) in a Region I-1A final at 7 p.m. in Dimmitt on Friday.
Nazareth was seemingly in control leading 21-13 at the half. However, the third quarter was a different contest. The Dragons battled back with pressure defense, forcing the Swifts into uncharacteristic mistakes. Paducah was able to take over the lead, 31-27, by the end of the third, and led by as many as eight in the fourth. Nazareth closed the gap to three, but never could recover from a struggling third quarter.
Isaac Garibaldi poured in 15 to lead the Dragons, followed by Mark Flemmons 11. Trent Gerber had a team-high 15 for Nazareth.
