Randall upends Tascosa in 3-5A opener, AHS cruises past PD, Hereford dominates Canyon

District action revved up in Class 5A and 4A across the Texas Panhandle on Saturday afternoon.

District 3-5A

A showcase game in District 3-5A took place at the Randall High School where the Lady Raiders opened district against Tascosa.

Randall took the first two sets 26-24, 25-21, before the Lady Rebels rallied back for a thrilling 34-32 third set victory. The Lady Raiders were able to close out Tascosa taking the fourth set, 25-13. Sophomore Jordyn Gove did a great job attacking the net with 14 kills to go with 25 digs for a double-double. Gove also added three aces. Teammate Paris Patterson knocked down 13 kills with four blocks, while Maretta Ramirez and Zenaida Murillo combined for 39 assists.

Tascosa’s Bebe Irwin finished with a game-high 16 kills and had six blocks.

Randall moves to 18-12 overall and 1-0 in league play. Tascosa is now 19-13, 0-1.

Amarillo High had no issues with Palo Duro getting a, 25-7, 25-8, 25-14, sweep at the PD Activity Center.

The Lady Sandies improve to 1-0 in District 3-5A and 23-11 overall. The Lady Dons drop to 6-23, 0-1.

Jo Moffitt led the way with 23 assists, five aces and three digs.

Caprock dropped its opening match of district to Plainview at home, 25-23, 25-19, 25-18. The Lady Longhorns are 11-23 overall, and 0-1 in district. The Lady Bulldogs are 24-9, 1-0.

District 4-4A

The No. 2-ranked Hereford Lady Whitefaces opened District 4-4A in dominating fashion by sweeping rival Canyon, 25-17, 25-12, 25-14.

The Lady Whitefaces stay red hot as they improve to an Amarillo-area best 33-2 overall, and now 1-0 in district play.

Camryn Blair and Taytum Stow were too much for the Lady Eagles up front combining for 26 kills. Blair had a game-high 16 kills, and Stow added 11 kills with six blocks and two aces.

Teammate London Baker was superb going for 16 assists with six digs.

Despite the loss, Canyon senior Ryne Roden dished out 21 assists as the Lady Eagles fall to 11-19, 0-1.

Dumas got off on the right foot to district play downing the Pampa Lady Harversters, 25-15, 25-13, 25-20, at the McNeely Field House in Pampa.

The Demonettes are 1-0 to open District 4-4A at 1-0, improving to 25-10 overall. Pampa drops to 19-10, 0-1.

Sheda Madit powered home 10 kills, chipping in five blocks to lead the Demonettes. Brenley Rodriguez had stellar serving with five aces to go with 4.5 blocks.

Pampa’s Mikalie Floyd finished with six kills, a pair of blocks, and a pair of aces.
