H.S. Softball roundup: Bushland clinches outright district title; Caprock takes down AHS in key 3-5A

Bushland continues to hammer its way through District 1-3A opponents and Saturday wasn’t any different.
The Lady Falcons started slow before putting up a 10-run third inning for another run-rule win this time at the hands of River Road, 25-6, at the Lady Wildcats Softball Complex.
The Lady Falcons (20-2-1 overall) claim the outright district championship with an unblemished 7-0 league mark. River Road falls to 9-11, 3-4.
Bushland’s power has been incredible throughout the season, and a north wind blowing out Saturday elevated the threat even more. Out of the Lady Falcon’s 20 hits, nine went for extra-bases.
Jessi Fowler was the hot-hand at the plate with a 3-for-6 effort. Fowler doubled, homered and drove in a game-high six RBIs. Catcher Avery Sena followed thanks to a three hits, including a double and a homer with three RBIs. Jillian Howell chipped in with two doubles and drove in three runs on top of pitching all five innings totaling nine K’s.

Dalhart downs Canadian
Two offensive innings separated Dalhart during a 15-3 run-rule win at Canadian in a District 1-3A clash Saturday afternoon.
The Lady Wolves tallied six runs in the top of the second to build a 7-0 lead, then put six more runs up in the top half of the sixth to ice the game taking a commanding 15-1 advantage.
Caryce Guerrero feasted on Canadian pitching with an excellent day at the plate. The senior finished 4-for-5 at the dish with a triple, and drove in a pair of RBIs, as well as scored two times.
Freshman pitcher Maddison Pedraza tossed a complete game totaling six K’s.
Dalhart improves to 9-8 overall and 4-3. The Lady Cats are now 3-19, 0-7.

Caprock blasts AHS
The Caprock Lady Longhorns played lights out in all phases to get a huge District 3-5A victory by run-ruling Amarillo High, 15-3, at the AHS Softball Complex on Friday.
Caprock (10-6 overall) not only avenges a loss to AHS a couple of weeks ago, but also pulls into a first place tie with the Lady Sandies (11-9) in the district race at 6-2 with two games remaining in the regular season.
Lady Longhorns pitcher Jaelin Ornelas made it an afternoon to remember. Ornelas tossed all five innings, allowing three runs with two K’s. But it was the juniors offense that led the way for Caprock in the win. Ornelas was perfect at the plate going 4-for-4 that included three doubles totaling four RBIs that crushed AHS. Teammate Amyiah Alaniz was clutch delivering a 2-run homer in the top of the second, finishing with three RBIs.

Plainview stuns Randall
Randall had a chance to pull into a first place tie in District 3-5A, but Plainview had other plans.
Two big scoring innings by the Lady Bulldogs were more than enough to pull off a 10-5 home upset of Randall on the way to clinching a playoff berth in the process.
Plainview broke open a scoreless contest plating five runs in the bottom of the fourth inning highlighted by key Lady Raider errors. After Randall scored cutting the lead at 5-1 in the top of the sixth, the Lady Bulldogs exploded with five more runs in the home half thanks in part to a key Madison Martinez double.
Esmeralda Lucio held up her end in the circle for Plainview pitching a complete game, racking up 13 strikeouts, and allowing only one earned run.
The Lady Bulldogs improve to 10-15 overall and 4-4 in district. Randall (14-11-1) stays a game of both Amarillo High and Caprock for first place in the league race at 5-3.

Tascosa takes down Lady Dons
Tascosa used its bats by plating eight runs in the first two innings to run-rule Palo Duro 18-1 on Friday at the PD Softball Complex.
Kilee Whitehead was steller in the circle for the Lady Rebels earning the win by throwing five innings, giving up a hit with seven K’s.
At the dish, Preslee Shelton went 3-for-5 driving in a pair of RBIs and scoring four times.
Tascosa is now 6-13 overall and 2-6 in district. Palo Duro falls to 1-12, 1-7.

Canyon clinches share of district title
Danielle Burns continued her torrid tear at the plate that helped Canyon soar past Borger 6-2 at Conner Park on Friday night.
The victory was a big one for the Lady Eagles (14-7-2) as they clinched at least a share of the District 4-4A title improving to 8-0 in league play. Borger drops to 11-7, 2-6.
Burns, who hit two home runs during Tuesday’s win against Perryton, delivered two solo shots Friday giving Burns 14 homers on the season. Thanks to the power at the plate freshman pitcher Kylie Knowles (13-5) was able to work herself out of two bases loaded jams, going all seven innings racking up 11 K’s for the win.

Hereford holds off Pampa
Despite a late rally from Pampa in its final at-bat, Hereford was able to hang on for a clutch 4-3 road victory Friday afternoon.
The win was crucial for the Lady Whitefaces (7-18 overall) pull into a third place tie with the Lady Harvesters (11-7-1) at 4-4 in District 4-4A.
Hereford trailed Pampa 1-0 before exploding thanks to a 4-run fifth inning. Bonnie Vallejo got things started with an RBI single to right scoring Madisyn Valdez tying the game at 1-1. Later in the fifth Lexi Hernandez came through with a 2-run double that gave the Lady Whitefaces a 3-1 advantage. The insurance run then came on another RBI single by Nahryah Hayes that plated Hernandez pushing Hereford to a 4-1 lead.
Pampa didn’t go away giving one late rally when Jasmine Hanen delivered a 2-run homer in the bottom of the seventh cutting the deficit to 4-3. However, that was as close as the Lady Harvesters came as Hereford pitcher Tori Alamos settled down striking out Sydney Larkin to end the game.

Dumas run-rules Rangerettes
Dumas not only blanked Perryton in convincing fashion 12-0 in a home district clash Friday, but the Demonettes also clinched a Class 4A playoff berth in the process.
Hopey Cortes and Candy Contreras did the damage for Dumas. Cortez had a double driving in the three runs in the win, while Contreras hit a grand-slam to end the game in the bottom of the fifth.
Briana Vargas was strong in the circle allowing one hit over five innings to gain the victory.
Dumas (12-9 overall) improves to 6-2 in district. Perryton falls to 5-12, 0-8.
