Bidistrict and District 3-5A roundup: Childress makes school history; Randall rolls by Tascosa

It was a historic afternoon for the Childress Lady Bobcats on Saturday.

For the first time in the volleyball program history Childress — under first-year head coach and Bushland graduate Brett Zaccardo — won the first playoff match in school history, sweeping Highland Park, 25-21, 25-23, 25-17. in the Class 3A bidistrict round.

Zaccardo and a her Lady Bobcats team continue rewriting the record books each time they touch the floor. Childress (16-5 overall) opened the season 10-0, and have won a program-best 16 games this year.

In Saturday’s sweep of the Lady Hornets, who finish the season at 9-13, senior middle blocker Grace Foster dominated up front for Childress. The Lubbock Christian University basketball commit powered down 13 kills, made eight blocks, and added an ace. Teammate Lilly Stephens chipped in 25 assists in the victory.

Childress will take on Brownfield in the Class 3A area round at 6 p.m. Tuesday in Tulia.

Playoff Notes

Hereford and Dumas helped District 4-4A make it a clean bidistrict sweep of District 3-4A, as both cruised to wins. The Lady Whitefaces (22-1) rolled over San Angelo Lake View 25-9, 25-10, 25-3, and the Demonettes (17-9) downed Sweetwater 25-9, 25-15, 25-18.

Junior middle blocker Taytum Stow knocked down 19 kills for Hereford against Lake View.

Brenley Rodriguez led Dumas with 13 kills.

In Class 1A, Wildorado is also headed to the area round beating Wellman-Union 25-18 25-20 25-23. Chloe Aduddell had 14 kills, while teammate Kayla Stephens dished out 32 assists. The Lady Mustangs are now 18-7.

District 3-5A

As the small school playoffs are underway, Class 6A-5A schools are just beginning the second half of district action. District 3-5A started its second half Friday and Saturday highlighted by Tascosa at Randall. The Lady Raiders were able to gain a measure of a five-set loss in thanks to an impressive 25-17, 27-25, 25-21, sweep at the Randall Gym.

Kiar Parker was relentless against the Lady Rebels as the Lady Raider outside hitter racked up 19 kills to go with three aces. Teammate Taylor Irving hit the floor for 18 digs. Randall improves to 9-3 overall and 4-2 in district. Tascosa drops to 8-6 overall and 4-2.
