Representatives from the All-American Bowl were in Gruver on Monday morning to honor Greyhounds senior and University of Oklahoma commit, Jalin Conyers, with his ceremonial jersey for the upcoming All-American Bowl on Jan. 4, at the Alamodome in San Antonio.

Conyers, in front of his family, coaches and the school, was given the jersey during a press conference for the annual game that features the top 100 senior football players from across the country.

“It was really cool” Conyers said. “This doesn’t happen often around here. It’s nice of the All-American Bowl to come the school personally and give that jersey to me. It was awesome to have my family there, my coaches and the entire school. It’s a big deal to be recognized, and I want to go down there and prove I belong with those top 100 players.”

Conyers, who will ink with the Sooners during the early signing period on Dec. 18, finished his senior season throwing for 1,516 yards with 19 touchdowns. He rushed for 653 yards with another 12 touchdowns, and caught 20 passes for 373 yards with three more scores despite a cast on his right-hand the final six weeks of the season.

As a junior, the 6-foot-5, 220 pound Conyers helped Gruver to a 14-2 record, including the program’s first trip to the Class 2A Division II state championship game.

“These two years at Gruver have been great,” Conyers said. “I don’t know where I’d be without this place. We got to go to state in football and basketball last season, so I’ve been blessed to be hear and play for coach [Terry] Felderhoff] and all these coaches. It’s something I’ll always remember.”

The All-American Bowl will be broadcast at 1 p.m. on NBC.
