Currie Marusak, Amarillo High volleyball, Sr.

On the hardwood: Marusak had a fantastic week leading the Amarillo High Lady Sandies to wins against Lubbock-Monterey, Grandbury and Nolan Catholic.

The Texas Tech commit and senior outside hitter totaled 35 kills with an eye-opening hitting percentage of .502, adding 21 digs, four blocks to go with four aces. Marusak is a four-year starter for AHS, which is 22-11 this year. Over her four years the powerful hitter has done a tremendous job of filling the leadership role for the Lady Sandies. In 33 games this season, Marusak has 448 kills, and is currently chasing former AHS and Texas Tech standout Emerson Solano for the single season record. Solano knocked down 559 kills in 2015.

Marusak also had 282 digs with 39 blocks, and 32 aces in 2021.

Coach Mike Moffitt: “Currie has been playing fantastic and really leading the way for us. She leads the team in kills, and continually improves each time she’s on the court. Currie sets the tone and has made huge strides in her leadership since her freshman year. We didn’t want to push the leadership too hard on her until last summer. That has all changed now. She’s taken the role and ran with it. She breaks us out out and this team respects everything she has to say. She just does a great job all around.”

Marusak: “I feel this season is going great. We have a talented group, and it has been wonderful to see us grow and get better throughout the season. We all do the best we can everyday to make each other better. Playing for Amarillo High the last four years I feel my leadership on and off the floor has grown.

When I was a freshman and sophomore I didn’t feel it was my place because we had great seniors ahead of me. I decided this year I wanted to be that person.”
