Bushland downs Tascosa; Hereford cans Caprock, Fritch takes district opener against Olton

It was the final night of non-district action for many teams across the Texas Panhandle as district play for Class 5A and Class 4A gears up this weekend.

Before Tascosa gets ready to open District 3-5A opener with Randall on Saturday, the Lady Rebels faced off with Class 3A power, Bushland.

After dropping the first set, the Lady Falcons (21-4) found a rhythm to take the next three for a, 19-25, 25-20, 25-22, 25-18, victory at the THS Activity Center.

Junior Emma Troxell, a Division I basketball prospect, had a team-high 15 kills with three blocks. Teammate Mason Ebberly added 13 kills with five blocks, while Jaycee Adams hit the hardwood for 26 digs, and had two aces.

Tascosa’s Liv Sims finished with 19 kills and 16 digs for a double-double. The Lady Rebels will enter district at 19-12 overall.

Hereford ended its non-district portion of the schedule making it a clean sweep of District 3-5A thanks to a sweep at Caprock, 25-14, 25-9, 25-12.

During August and September the Lady Whitefaces earned wins of the powerful 5A district that includes — Amarillo High, Randall, Tascosa, Palo Duro, Plainview and Caprock.

The No. 2-ranked Lady Whitefaces improve to 32-2 overall, and will open District 4-4A action hosting Canyon at noon, Saturday.

Senior standout Taytum Stow racked up 19 kills, four blocks with an ace against the Lady Longhorns during Tuesdyay’s victory.

District 4-2A did get started Tueday night with preseason favorite Sanford-Fritch handling Olton, 25-12, 25-16, 25-6.

Reigning District MVP, Bella Price, had a big match knocking down 14 kills with five blocks. Teammate Avery Connor tallied 10 aces, and five kills. The Lady Eagles move to 1-0 in district and 12-9 overall.
