AHS sweeps season series from Tascosa in 3-5A showdown; Area round small school playoff roundup

Amarillo High stayed red hot in District 3-5A play taking the season series from arch-rival Tascosa with a, 25-21, 25-16, 25-18, sweep on Tuesday night at the THS Activity Center.

The win not only pushes AHS (13-4 overall) to a 13th straight win and a 7-0 district mark, but the Lady Sandies also clinch a Class 5A playoff spot.

Tascosa has now dropped back-to-back matches falling to 8-7 overall and 4-3 in district.

Lady Sandies outside hitter Currie Marusak continues her outstanding play through the district season. The junior once again was trouble for the Lady Rebels by dominating the net with 11 kills, hitting the hardwood for nine digs, adding four blocks.

District 4-4A showed its strength once again in the area round of the Class 4A playoffs.

Hereford, Canyon and Pampa all advanced into the regional quarterfinal round thanks to key wins on Monday and Tuesday night.

Dumas almost made it a district sweep, however, fell in heartbreaking fashion to Monahans, 19-25, 21-25, 25-22, 25-18, 15-12.

The Demonettes season comes to an end at 17-10.

Pampa, the No. 4-seed out of District 4-4A, played another great match getting past Andrews 22-25, 25-17, 25-18, 25-8 25-8. The Lady Harvesters improve to 16-10 overall, while Andrews ends its year at 22-5. Celest Ostercamp did her part in the victory for Pampa racking up an eye-opening 35 digs.

Senior Hallie Sieck had 41 assists.

Hereford had no issue with Clint, cruising to a 25-9, 25-8, 25-4 victory in Monahans on Tuesday.

Bonnie Vallejo made 11 kills, Miranda Acosta had 18 digs and Ryne Roden dished out 43 assists.

Hereford (24-1) will square off with rival Pampa in the regional quarterfinals at a time and place to be determined.

In Class 3A, It was no surprise to see Bushland roll once again bu routing Littlefield 25-3, 25-6, 25-9 in Hereford. Senior standout Kinley Rudder pounded out 12 kills with four digs.

The Lady Falcons improve to 26-2 and will face Shallowater in a regional quarterfinal at a time and place to be determined.
