Tascosa nabs big win over rival PD

The Tascosa Lady Rebels picked up big production from key players when it counted to earn a big 71-62 road win at rival Palo Duro in Friday’s regular season finale.

The Lady Rebels finish the regular season at 13-12 overall and in a second place tie with Plainview (16-8) at 7-3 in the District 3-5A standings. The two teams flipped for seeding Friday night, and as a result Plainview will be the No. 2-seed out of the district, while Tascosa gets the No. 3 spot. Palo Duro (17-7, 5-5) will be the fourth and final seed.

D’Kiera Johnson and Jessalyn Gonzales combined for 47 points in the win against the Lady Dons on Friday. Johnson tallied a game-high 26, followed by Gonzales’ 21.

Seeding games

The University Scholastic League playoffs aren’t quite set for certain teams across the Texas Panhandle. They’ll be a handful of seeding games to take place to breakup the ties in certain districts. In District 4-4A, Dumas will square off with Perryton at 6 p.m. Monday in Gruver to determine the No. 3 and 4-seeds. In District 1-3A, Spearman and Bushland will meet at 6:30 p.m. Monday in Borger to see who gets the No. 2 and 3-seeds. In District 3-2A, Farwell and Vega tied for the district title, so the two will matchup at 7 p.m. Monday at Canyon High School for the No. 1 and 2-seed, and finally in District 1-1A McLean takes on Miami at 6 p.m. Saturday in White Deer to determine the No. 2 and 3-seeds.
