On the final night of the regular season, Amarillo High saw another volleyball player make history Tuesday night.

Junior setter Jo Moffitt put her name in the Lady Sandies record books becoming the single-season assist leader at AHS.

During the Lady Sandies (32-11) sweep of Caprock, 25-18, 25-11, 25-6, that secured an undefeated District 3-5A campaign at 10-0, Moffitt needed only nine assists to break former AHS and University of Oklahoma standout, Brianna Barker’s single-season mark of 1,234.

Moffitt surpassed that total with ease serving up 34 assists against the Lady Longhorns giving her 1,260 for the year.

“I am so excited to break that record,” Moffitt said. “Brianne Barker was a great setter. It is an honor to break this AHS record, and I couldn’t have done it without my amazing passers and hitters. I just love playing with these girls and want to keep it going.”

Moffitt’s father and AHS head coach, Mike Moffitt, echoed his daughter’s comment.

“it’s just been a really special experience,” Moffit said. “Watching Jo come into her own as a person and a player over the years has been amazing. I’m definitely a proud dad for a minute, and now it’s on to the playoffs.”

Currie Marusak, who broke the single-season kills record for AHS earlier this year knocked down a game-high 14 kills in the win against the Lady Longhorns with eight digs and three assists.

AHS will be the No. 1-seed out of the District 3-5A when the University Scholastic League playoffs begin next week.

Tuesday’s highlights

Playoff seeding highlighted Tuesday’s action on the final night of the regular season.

The Canyon Lady Eagles secured the No. 3-seed out of District 3-4A with a home victory against Pampa, 25-19, 20-25, 25-15, 25-19.

Senior Taylor Thomas and freshman Brooklyn Kinsey combined for 18 kills in the key win. Canyon finishes the regular season at 17-22, 6-4. Pampa is the No. 4-seed out of the district at 25-17, 4-6.

Highland Park took outright second place out of District 1-3A thanks to a 25-12, 25-18, 25-17, sweep of River Road.

The Lady Hornets claim the second spot behind Bushland at 24-12 overall, and 3-3 in district. Dalhart (15-19, 2-4) is third, and River Road (14-25, 1-5) will be the fourth and final seed.

In District 4-2A, there’s still a lot to unpack. Sanford-Fritch and West Texas High both won Tuesday night finishing as co-district champions at 7-1. The Lady Eagles and Lady Comanches are set to have a seeding contest at 2 p.m. Saturday at Frank Phillips College for the No. 1-spot.

Vega and Olton will also have a play-in game Saturday for the fourth and final spot out of the district with a time and place to be determined.
