HS Volleyball roundup: Amarillo High cruises past Cooper in 3-5A opener; Caprock sweeps Plainview

Amarillo High got off to a great start to the District 3-5A schedule with a dominating home sweep of Lubbock Cooper on Tuesday.

The Lady Sandies were impressive from start to finish in a 25-17, 25-12, 25-20 victory.

First-year AHS head coach Mike Moffitt and his team move to 14-10 overall and 1-0 in District 3-5A. The Lady Pirates fall to 17-11, 0-1.

Senior Hannah Shipman was stellar for AHS, slamming home eight kills while dishing out 21 assists. Teammate Lauren Marler also had eight kills with three blocks.

Amarillo High def. Cooper 25-17, 25-12, 25-20

Records: Cooper 17-11, 0-1; AHS 14-10, 1-0.

Caprock wins district opener:First-year head coach Branda Morales earned her first career District 3-5A win.

Her Caprock Lady Longhorns went on the road and pickedup a sweep of Plainview, 25-20, 25-23, 25-21.

Raygan Lopez and Shelvie Brazille finished the night with 10 kills each for the Lady Longhorns. Senior Gesti Carrasco added 12 digs.

Caprock moves to 16-9 overall and 1-0 in district. Plainview falls to 10-11, 0-1

Caprock def. Plainview 25-20, 25-23, 25-21

Records: Caprock 16-9, 1-0; Plainview 10-11, 0-1.

Lubbock Coronado downs Palo Duro: The Palo Duro Lady Dons fought hard but came up short in their district opener against Lubbock Coronado at home Tuesday.

The Lady Mustangs were able to come away with a 25-20, 25-18, 25-17 sweep, improving to 16-8 overall and 1-0 in District 3-5A.

Palo Duro falls to 1-0.

Bushland beats Tascosa in four:The No. 3-ranked Bushland Lady Falcons are on fire and don’t seem to be slowing down anytime soon.

The Lady Falcons were able to take down Class 6A Tascosa 25-27, 25-21, 25-19, 25-19 on Tuesday in Bushland.

Bushland, which has won its last two tournaments, are now an eye-opening 26-1 on the season.

Tascosa drops to 14-9.

Kinley Rudder did the damage, slamming 19 kills for the Lady Falcons. Berrilyn Boydston had 15 assists.

Taryn Galt had 25 kills to lead the Lady Rebels.

Bushland def. Tascosa 25-27, 25-21, 25-19, 25-19

Records: Bushland 26-1; Tascosa 14-9.

Canyon holds off Dumas: In what could be an early season Class 4A playoff preview, it was the Lady Eagles coming away with a hard fought road win at Dumas on Tuesday.

Canyon was pushed in every game but were able to hold off the Demonettes thanks to a 28-26, 26-24, 25-23 victory.

The Lady Eagles improve to 15-12 overall while Dumas falls to 15-10.

Canyon’s Emma Crenshaw was clutch, knocking down 13 kills, coming up with 14 digs and adding four aces. Zoey Sparks chipped in with 10 kills and seven blocks.

Dumas was led by Destiny Salvidar’s 12 kills.

Highland Park wins crosstown showdown:It was Highland Park coming away with a 25-14, 25-10, 25-8 sweep of rival River Road on Tuesday.

The Lady Hornets push their record to 18-7 overall with the win.

Cynarah Rodriguez had 11 kills, 10 digs with six aces. Cynarah’s sister, Neveah Rodriguez, had 11 kills with four aces.

Highland Park def. River Road 25-14, 25-10, 25-8

Record: Highland Park 18-7.

Top performers: Cynarah Rodriguez 11 kills, 10 digs, 6 aces; Neveah Rodriguez 11 kills, 4 aces.

Hereford beats up Borger:It was a quick night of work for the Hereford Lady Whitefaces on the road Tuesday.

Hereford rolled to a 25-16, 25-17, 25-14 sweep on the road at Borger for a nondistrict victory.

Sophomore middle blocker Taytum Stowe was unstoppable knocking down a game-high 20 kills with three blocks.

The win moves the Lady Whitefaces to 13-12 on the year.

Record: Hereford 13-12.

Hereford—Taytum Stowe 20 kills, 3 blocks; Rainey Aven 22 assists, 7 blocks.

Fritch takes down Pampa: The Sanford-Fritch Lady Eagles went up two classifications and picked up a 25-18, 25-18, 29-27, 25-23 sweep of Pampa on Tuesday.

Senior standout Zoe Fry had 25 kills to lead Fritch. Fry added five blocks and seven digs, as teammate Tiffani Henry dished out 35 assists.

The Lady Eagles are now 13-4 on the year.

Fritch def. Pampa 25-18, 29-27, 25-23

Record: Sanford-Fritch 13-4.
