HS Volleyball rewind: Bushland, Randall stay red hot; Highland Park claims silver

There isn’t a team playing any better volleyball at the moment than the Bushland Lady Falcons.

For a second week in a row the Lady Falcons claimed a tournament championship, winning the Frenship Tournament thanks to a perfect 7-0 mark.

Bushland rallied for a 23-25, 25-22, 25-18 victory over Wichita Falls Rider in the championship match.

Setter Ansley Sims was named tourney MVP. Teammate Kinley Rudder was named to the all-tournament team.

The red hot No. 3-ranked Lady Falcons improve to an eye opening 25-1 overall.

Frenship Tournament roundup

The Canyon, Caprock and Dumas had solid showings in Wolforth.

Canyon finished in the top eight with a 4-1 record. The Lady Eagles are 14-12 overall.

Dumas was also 4-1, finishing in the top eight. Senior middle blocker Kiki Kent totaled 45 kills, 19 blocks with four digs.

Caprock finished 3-3 in the tourney and are 15-9 overall.

Volleypalooza

Randall’s sensational start to the season continued with a silver medal performance at the Volleypalooza Tournament in Leander. Bri Ford contributed to the Lady Raiders being named to the All-Tourney team.

The No. 3 ranked Lady Raiders were 8-1 over the three days, pushing their record to 21-3.

District 3-5A rival Amarillo High also competed in Leander. The Lady Sandies (13-10 overall) went 5-3 with victories over Oak Ridge, Midway, Magnolia West, Friendswood, and Tomball Memorial.

Currie Marusek had a total 48 kills while Piper Warren racked up 78 digs.

Tascosa and Hereford were in action

The Tascosa Lady Rebels went 2-2 at the Arlington Tournament.

Tascosa (14-8 overall) swept Midlothian and JJ Pearce, however, fell to Eaton in five-set thriller and Arlington Martin in four.

Senior Taryn Galt was named to the all-tournament team. Galt knocked down a combined 64 kills the four games. Teammate Aaliyah Hardy added 146 assists.

Hereford went 4-2 at the Decatur showcase. Senior Darcy Dodd made the all-tournament team.

Highland Park claims silver

Highland Park went 7-1 at the Denver City Tournament on Saturday before falling to Shallowater in the championship game.

The Lady Mustangs were too much for the Lady Hornets, taking a 26-24, 25-20 victory.

Emma Patterson totaled 50 digs Saturday while Neveah Rodriquez had 26 kills 35 digs in all Saturday games. Highland Park is 17-7 overall.
