High School Volleyball roundup – West Plains, Randall, Dumas, Hereford open with district wins

West Plains opens district in style

District 4-4A officially got underway Saturday with four games coming out of the massive eight team district.

Playing in its first ever district game, the West Plains Lady Wolves made it a historic one by downing Pampa, 21-25, 25-18, 25-19, 25-16 at home.

West Plains improves to an impressive 22-3 overall and 1-0 in league play. Pampa falls to 16-9 overall and 0-1.

Brooklyn Garcia, Jayli Franklin and Piper Patterson were big up front for the Lady Wolves combining for 34 kills. Garcia had a team high 12 while Franklin and Patterson knocked down 11. West Plains also worked the ball around well in their 6-2 offense as Cecelia Murillo dished out 26 kills, followed by Zenaida Murrillo’s 23. Cecelia also had three aces in the victory.

Mikalie Floyd had a strong effort for Pampa ending with a double-double powering home 14 kills with 16 digs.

Randall sweeps Borger

The Randall Lady Raiders had no problems making the move to District 4-4A by beating Borger 25-12, 25-10, 25-13 at home.

Randall hits its 20th win of the year moving to 20-8 overall and 1-0 in district. Borger falls to 14-9, 0-1.

Setter Sidney Soria ran the offense well with 36 assists, eight digs and two kills. Jordyn Gove finished with 10 kills followed by teammate Brooke Henderson with nine. Kandree Perez ended her day with five aces.

Hereford takes down Perryton

Hereford made an early district statement with a convincing 25-8, 25-5, 25-3, home win over Perryton on Saturday.

London Baker continues to have a superb season. Baker had an eye-opening six aces to go with 24 assists against the Rangerettes. Kyndal Blair had a game-high nine kills as teammates Nickilah Whatley tallied eight and Camryn Blair pounded down seven. Estafani Solorzano led the Lady Whitefaces hitting the court for 11 digs.

Hereford is 22-6 overall and 1-0 in District 4-4A. Perryton drops to 11-11, 0-1.

Dumas downs Canyon 

Dumas got District 4-4A started on the right foot going on the road and earning a big win against Canyon, 25-23, 17-25, 25-18, 25-15.

Brooklyn Sianez was key in the win over the Lady Eagles registering 13 kills, while Brooklyn Cox had seven blocks. Rylee Schacher added nine kills with 6.5 blocks as Maris Rodriguez handled 27 digs. Hallie Coon was also key in the victory tossing out 39 assists.

Dumas is in good shape at 1-0 in the district standings and 19-11 overall. Canyon falls to 5-23, 0-1.

Class 5A non-district notes 

Amarillo High, Tascosa, Caprock and Palo Duro all continued their non-district schedules over the weekend with all four Amarillo ISD schools getting victories.

Amarillo High made quick work of Midland High on Friday, 25-12, 25-16, 25-11. The Lady Sandies were led by Ryan Pennington’s seven kills and five blocks. Sienna Cavalier added 14 digs with six blocks. The Lady Sandies are now 21-8.

Tascosa cruised to a sweep of Lubbock High on Friday, 25-10, 25-9, 25-16.

Meredith Sanning had a game-high 37 assists. Dominique Davis had 18 digs, and Saphina Stanley powered down 10 kills. The Lady Rebels move to 15-13.

Palo Duro earned a hard fought five-set win over Wichita Falls High 25-27, 25-22, 25-19, 25-27, 15-3.

Syvihanna Sutton and Precious Johnson combined for 28 kills. Sutton led the team with 15 followed by Johnson’s 13. Sutton added five blocks with five digs. Palo Duro is now 12-12 overall.

Caprock went on the road and took down Childress on Saturday 25-16, 26-24, 25-17.

Olivia Hurnes paved the way in the win with 11 kills, a block, and two aces. Teammate Lilliana Rangel had 19 assists with three kills and three aces. Caprock improves to 16-13 on the year.

Saturday notes

Bushland stays on top of its game getting a sweep of Class 6A Frenship 25-15, 25-13, 25-14, on Saturday.

Madyson Eberly was fantastic on the outside powering down 10 kills with four blocks and three aces. Kaela Neie made nine kills to go with three blocks and Jada Permenter had 17 digs. The Lady Falcons are rolling at 21-4 overall.

Highland Park took out Friona 25-10, 23-25, 25-9, 26-24, on Saturday. Kyra Courtemanche and Melanie Koval were strong at the net combining for 22 kills. Courtemanche had a game-high 13 followed by Koval’s nine. Mercedes Harton dished out 23 assists and had five aces. The Lady Hornets are 20-7 on the season.

River Road made a trip to Stinnett worth it by getting a 25-22, 25-22, 25-21, sweep of West Texas High on Saturday.

Rylee Kunkel had a great outing with 10 kills, eight assists, and two aces. Reese DeHart pitched in with 15 assists. The Lady Wildcats move to 10-11 on the year after the victory.
