Canyon gets first district win
The Canyon Lady Eagles are in the district win column after soaring past Perryton in a sweeping fashion, 25-19, 25-17, 25-8, on Tuesday.
The Lady Eagles improve to 1-1 in District 4-4A and 6-23 overall. Perryton falls to 11-12 overall and are still searching for its first league win dropping to 0-2.
Sophomore Brooklyn Kinsey played a big role offensively for Canyon knocking down a team-high 10 kills. Teammate Alaina Bellino had 17 assists and an impressive six aces and Landri Jay added 13 digs.
West Plains keeps rolling
West Plains traveled north to Dumas and earned its biggest win to date downing Dumas in four-sets, 26-24, 25-21, 12-25, 25-22.
The Lady Wolves held off a late rally from the Demonettes to earn the fourth set and claim the victory. West Plains (23-3 overall) remains atop the District 4-4A standings at 2-0, while Dumas (19-12) drops to 1-1 in district.
Jayli Franklin and Piper Patterson were clutch for West Plains combining for 32 kills. Franklin led the team with 17 as Patterson finished with 15. The sister combination of Zenaida and Cecilia Murrillo handed out the assists. Zenaida had a game-high 22 followed by little sister, Cecilia’s 17. McCall Sims hit the floor for 33 digs.
Despite the loss Brooklyn Sianez registered 10 kills with three aces for Dumas and Hallie Coon had 27 assists.
Randall stays perfect in league play
The Randall Lady Raiders had no issues going on the road and getting a sweep of Pampa, 25-17, 25-16, 25-23.
Powerful outside hitter Jordyn Gove did what she does best earning another double-double on the year with 13 kills to go with 16 digs. Sidney Soria had a fantastic night for the Lady Raiders leading the way with 41 assists, eight digs and six kills. Teammate Brooke Henderson contributed with eight kills and seven digs of her own.
Pampa’s Mikalie Floyd earned double-double with 12 digs and 10 kills.
Randall moves to 21-8 overall and is now 2-0 in District 4-4A. Pampa drops to 16-10 overall and 0-2.
Hereford holds off Borger
Hereford kept pace with both Randall and West Plains by traveling to Borger and nabbing a 25-19, 25-9, 25-17, sweep of the Lady Bulldogs in a district clash on Tuesday.
Nickilah Whatley is on a season long roll that continued as she powered down 10 kills with three blocks and five aces. Teammate Autumn Wilborn also had 10 kills, and London Baker dished out 29 assists during the victory.
Borger’s Emilee Bridges had a team-high six kills with three aces. Alex Sheppard was strong at the net with seven blocks.
Hereford is 23-6 overall and now 2-0 in District 4-4A. Borger drops to 14-10, 0-2.
Non-District notes
River Road rallied back for a thrilling five-set victory at home taking down Littlefield, 25-20, 11-25, 25-18, 23-25, 15-13.
With the dramatic win River Road improves to 11-11 overall on the year. Rylee Kunkel rallied the team with eight kills and 18 assists. Braislyn Bertrand had a team-high 11 kills, and Ava Sharp had an eye-popping nine aces in the match.
Bushland kept on rolling by downing Abilene High in convincing fashion 25-19, 25-21, 25-10, at Lubbock Monterey on Tuesday night.
Outside hitter Kaela Neie was her typical self, powering home 13 kills, Madyson Eberly had 10 kills with five blocks and Jada Permenter added 20 digs. Bushland improves to 22-4 overall.
Tascosa made a long road trip to Childress well worth it gaining a 25-19, 25-19, 25-8, sweep of the Lady Bobcats.
Meredith Sanning led the Lady Rebels with 32 assists while teammate Dominique Davis had a team-high 21 digs. Tascosa is now 16-13 overall.
Highland Park took down Palo Duro in a hard fought, 25-21, 25-18, 25-25, sweep at home.
Kyra Courtemanche highlighted the match with a double-double going for 13 digs and 11 kills. The Lady Hornets are off to an impressive 21-7 start to the season.
Amarillo High suffered a tough four-set loss at home to Odessa Permian, 24-26, 19-25, 25-23, 17-25.
Despite the loss Sienna Cavalier and Ryan Pennington combined for 25 kills and Jo Moffitt handed out 42 assists. The Lady Sandies fall to 21-9 overall.
