District 3-5A

Amarillo High rolls over Caprock

The Amarillo High Lady Sandies kept their winning ways going by opening the second half of district play with a 25-14, 25-8, 25-10, victory at Caprock.

Jaycie Scott cut through the Lady Longhorns defense for a game-high eight kills, followed by Sienna Cavalier’s seven kills. Jo Moffitt had another superb outing handing out 26 assists, six digs and two blocks. Amarillo High stays all alone in first place at 5-0 in District 3-5A and 28-9 overall. Caprock (19-15) drops to 2-3.

Tascosa pummels Plainview

Tascosa had no issues going down I-27 and handling Plainview coming away with a 25-10, 25-14, 25-8, sweep.

The Lady Rebels stay a game behind Amarillo High at 4-1 in District 3-5A and move to 21-16 overall. Plainview is now 13-23, 1-4. Meredith Sanning guided the offense with 34 assists while Saphina Stanley knocked down 12 kills. Kassidy Langeland worked hard on defense with 24 digs.

District 4-4A

Hereford’s McCracken reaches special milestone

It was more than just another win for Hereford as the Lady Whitefaces stayed hot by downing Pampa on the road 25-15, 25-19, 25-18.

The victory reached a special milestone for head coach and Hereford graduate Carley McCracken who earned her 100th win of career in only her third season. In those three short years, McCracken has put together an outstanding record of 100-11 leading the Lady Whitefaces to back-to-back Region I-4A Tournament appearances.

Hereford also reaches the 30-win mark on the season improving to 30-7 overall and jumps to 9-1 in District 4-4A. Pampa has now dropped back-to-back matches slipping to 5-5 in the league and 21-13. Hereford’s Nickilah Whatley played an outstanding game beating Pampa for 13 digs and 10 kills for a double-double, adding six blocks with a pair of aces. London Baker was strong in the win leading the offense for 37 assists and was great on defense with 16 digs. Pampa’s Mikalie Floyd earned a double-double with 10 kills and 10 digs. Mazi Smith added six kills with five blocks.

Randall, West Plains, Borger take home wins

It was a busy night for Canyon ISD. Randall visited Dumas while Canyon battled new rival West Plains for the second time in district. Randall kept its stellar play going despite getting a push from Dumas in a 25-23, 25-16, 28-26, sweep.

Randall (29-8 overall) stays a game ahead of Hereford in District 4-4A at a perfect 10-0. Dumas drops to 3-7 in district and 21-18 overall. Lady Raider setter Sidney Soria did her job on offense passing out 46 assists with a pair of kills and made her name on defenses with 14 digs to earn a double-double performance. Teammate Jordyn Gove added a double-double of her own with 22 kills and 15 digs.

West Plains completed a season sweep of rival Canyon 25-18, 25-23, 25-20, at Canyon on Tuesday.

Cecilia Murillo and sister Zenaida Murillo combined for 31 assists. Jayli Franklin benefited from that passing cutting through the Lady Eagles for 17 kills and registered 15 digs for a double-double. Canyon’s Callie McKinley six kills and two aces. West Plains (29-6) stays in third place at 7-3 in district. Canyon (9-28) is a game behind Pampa for fourth place at 4-6.

Borger snapped a five-game losing skid by beating up Perryton 25-13, 25-15, 25-21.

The Lady Bulldogs were led by Adraya Loftis’ 11 kills, six blocks and three digs. Teammate Emilee Bridges added eight kills and two blocks. Borger is 16-16 overall and 2-8 in district. Perryton (11-20) is still seeking its first win in league play at 0-10.

District notes

Bushland won its 78th straight district match cruising over Friona 25-8, 25-10, 25-12.

The Lady Falcons are 5-0 in District 1-3A and 32-4 overall. Friona falls to 16-13, 3-2. Bushland had 36 team kills led by Madyson Eberly’s 11 and Kaela Neie’s 10. Jada Permenter hit the floor for 12 digs and four aces.

Vega pulled off may be the most shocking win of the night stunning West Texas High in four-sets 25-23, 26-24, 23-25, 25-19.

The Lady Longhorns used a huge performance from Jaz Martinez who played stellar on offense and defense knocking down 18 kills and getting 16 digs for a double-double. Kami Drinnon has also huge on defense with 28 digs. Vega is now 2-3 in District 1-2A and 9-19 overall. WT High falls to 13-15 overall and 4-2 in district.
