Strong pitching from the Coahoma Bulldogettes was too much for Bushland bats to overcome, as the Lady Falcons saw their season end in the Class 3A regional semifinals on Saturday afternoon at Lubbock-Cooper High School.

Coahoma (30-4-1) swept Bushland in two very competitive games. The Lady Bulldogs blanked Bushland, 2-0, on Friday, and held off a late rally from the Lady Falcons for a 7-5 victory on Saturday.

During Friday’s contest Coahoma’s Hannah Wells was in complete control. Wells, a freshman, shutdown Bushland’s potent lineup tossing a complete game with 10 strikeouts, allowing only three hits. Coahoma’s pair of runs came in the first inning on a 2-run double by Brynn Rodgers.

The Lady Falcons took an early 2-0 lead in Saturday’s game only to see Coahoma quickly answered plating three runs to go up 3-2 by the top of the third. The Bulldogettes padded that advantage scoring four more runs in the top of the seventh for a 7-2 lead. Bushland attempted a rally but fell short in the 7-5 loss.

Bushland ends an excellent season at 31-11 overall. Though they didn’t hit a home run over the weekend, the Lady Falcons ended the year tying their state record set last season with 88 homers as a team.

Argyle grounds Canyon

The Canyon Lady Eagles never stopped fighting however it wasn’t enough as Argyle came away with a two-game sweep in the Class 4A regional semifinals on Friday and Saturday.

Argyle won Friday’s first contest 5-1, followed by a thrilling, 12-11, walk-off victory on Saturday at Midwestern State University in Wichita Falls.

Argyle jumped out to an 8-0 lead after the first inning Saturday. Canyon didn’t go away as it started to chip away. Canyon scored five runs in the third and another five runs in the top of the fifth for an 11-10 advantage. But Argyle answered with a rally of its own. In the bottom of the seventh, Taylor Platt singled to score Keira Inman tying the game, 11-11. Two batters later Argyle (28-8-1) punched its ticket to the next round on a walk-off double by Hailey Clark.

Despite the defeat, Canyon’s Berkley Bradley went 3-for-5 with a double and five RBIs. Catcher Maison Guerra added a double, and a triple with a run driven in.

Canyon ends a superb season at 28-12 overall.
