H.S. Volleyball Tuesday night recap: AHS impresses against rival Tascosa; Hereford, Canyon cruise

Amarillo High came out of the gates on fire and Tascosa never could match the intensity in a, 25-14, 25-23, 25-18, Lady Sandies sweep Tuesday night at the AHS Activity Center.

This arch-rivalry was amped up to a new level being a District 3-5A match, but AHS was able to set the tone from the start thanks to stellar net play of Currie Marusak and Ashlyn Vinyard.

The Lady Sandies opened the first set with momentum taking Tascosa back on its heels with a 14-4 advantage. After cruising through the first set, AHS dominated into the second set before the Lady Rebels were able to settle in. Tascosa did try and battle back but the Lady Sandies were too much with their big hitters.

After a woeful 0-4 start to the season AHS now put togetger eight straight wins, moving to 8-4 overall and 2-0 in district. Tascosa falls to 5-5 overall and 1-1 in District 3-5A.

Lady Sandies junior hitter Marusak had a huge night pounding down 16 kills to go with three blocks. Vinyard, the senior leader, had nine kills.

Randall bounced back after seeing its district win streak of 41 straight snapped Saturday to Tascosa.

The Lady Raiders traveled over to Caprock and earned a 25-16, 25-10, 25-12 sweep of the Lady Longhorns.

Randall improves to 5-2 overall and 1-1 in district, while Caprock still seeks its first win at 0-5, 0-2.

Kiar Parker led the Lady Raiders 11 kills. Delanie Patterson added nine kills and two digs.

District 4-4A notes

Hereford and Canyon stayed 1-2 in the district race entering Tuesday nights halfway point.

Hereford downed Perryton with 25-12, 25-14, 25-9 sweep at Rangers Gym.

Junior middle blocker Taytum Stow was hard to stop making 18 kills and three blocks. Teammate Rainey Aven dished out 30 assists.

Canyon dropped a set but still got the in against Pampa at home 25-12, 20-25, 25-18, 26-16.

Kenda Evans and Zoey Sparks combined for 33 kills in the victory and Ryne Roden had a great game with 47 assists.

Hereford (16-1, 5-0) and Canyon (11-4, 4-1) will meet to open the second round of District 4-4A play at noon, Saturday in Canyon. The Lady Whitefaces held off the Lady Eagles in a five-set thriller the first time around.

District 1-3A notes

The No. 3-ranked Bushland Lady Falcons made it a successful district opener by dominating rival River Road 25-6, 25-7, 25-9. Jaycee Adams earned a double-double with 10 digs and an eye-opening 10 aces. Taryn Schultz dished out 14 assists with six aces.

Bushland is now 19-2, 1-0.

Dalhart had impressive outing in its District 1-3A opener taking out Highland Park at home 23-25, 25-15, 25-21, 25-23.

Rhianna Todd was the difference for the Lady Golden Wolves pouring in an incredible night. The junior had a double-double doing pretty much everything on the floor making 21 digs, knocking down 20 kills and had one block.

Dalhart is 7-6 overall and 1-0 in district.
