Tascosa’s first game in District 3-5A will be a memorable one for a few reasons.

Not only did the Lady Rebels win their first district-opening match after dropping into Class 5A, but they did in dramatic fashion stunning No. 7-ranked Randall in a five-set nail-biter, 25-21, 27-25, 12-25, 21-25, 15-13, at the THS Acvity Center on Saturday.

Another reason it will stand out is the Lady Rebels victory also snaps Randall’s incredible 41-match District 3-5A win streak dating back to 2017.

It looked all but secure for the Lady Rebels as they started out strong taking the first two sets. As talented as the Lady Raiders are, Randall didn’t go away capturing the next two sets to force a fifth and decisive game.

The two teams went back-and-forth in the fifth set before Tascosa won the final two points to pull off the upset.

Liv Sims played exceptional pounding down 20 kills for the Lady Rebels to go with 23 digs. Abrey Galt dished out 26 assists. Randall’s Lauren De Santiago racked up an impressive 42 digs while teammate Kiar Parker had 13 kills and six blocks.

Tascosa is now 5-4 overall and 1-0 in District 3-5A. Randall drops to 4-2, 0-1.

Amarillo High had no issue in its district opener sweeping Palo Duro 25-6, 25-12, 25-13.

The Lady Sandies are winners of seven straight, improving to 7-4 overall and 1-0 in district.

Jaedyn Woolley handed out 20 assists to go with three aces.

Notes

Hereford and Canyon stayed atop the District 4-4A standings. The Lady Eagles traveled north to Dumas and earned a 25-22, 25-21, 25-15 sweep of the Demonettes. Canyon (10-4 overall) stays a game back of Hereford with a 3-1 district mark. Dumas drops to 12-7, 2-2.

Canyon’s Raylee Bain took part in 12 kills, teammate Sadie Boyles hit the floor for 24 digs.

Hereford remained perfect at 4-0 in District 4-4A breezing past Borger at home 25-9, 25-7, 25-8. The Lady Whitefaces (15-1 overall) were led by Bonnie Vallejo’s eight kills, 11 digs and two blocks.

The Wildorado Lady Mustangs made quick work to open District 4-1A on Saturday. Wildorado eased past Fort Elliott 25-9 25-19, 25-20 at home.
