It felt like more of a November playoff atmosphere despite it being late August at Randall High School on Tuesday night as the No. 5-ranked Hereford Lady Whitefaces battled the Randall Lady Raiders in a matchup of two of the top teams from the Texas Panhandle.

In an electric environment, it was Hereford going on the road and nabbing an impressive four-set win by taking down Randall, 26-24, 25-20, 19-25, 25-19.

When called upon like she’s done her entire four-year career 6-foot-3 middle blocker Taytum Stow stepped up when needed for the Lady Whitefaces.

Stow used back-to-back kills to end a Randall rally and help Hereford take the first set, 26-24. Going forward the senior and West Texas A&M commit displayed her dominance knocking down a game-high 23 kills to go with seven blocks, and two aces.

However, it wasn’t just Stow’s effort that led Hereford (18-2 overall) to the victory. Teammates London Baker and Micah Palacios did a tremendous job in the passing game dishing out a combined 55 assist.

Miranda Acosta played excellent defense with 33 digs, followed by Bonnie Vallejo’s 18, as Camryn Blair added 14 kills and four blocks.

The Lady Raiders (7-9 overall) were led by Paris Patterson. The senior outside hitter tallied 15 kills, 23 digs, three aces, and two blocks. Taylor Irving chipped in with 31 digs.

The Dumas Demonettes stayed red hot coming off a tournament championship in Graham over the weekend. Dumas (16-6) pushed its winning streak to 11 straight matches with sweeps against Caprock and Lubbock Monterey on Tuesday night.

The Demonettes took down the Lady Longhorns, 25-21, 25-11, 25-15, then made quick work of the Lady Plainsman 25-12, 25-12, 25-22.

Outside hitter Abree Elsheimer combined for 29 kills and 14 digs in the two wins. Teammate Halie Coon totaled 33 assists.

Highland Park is off to a great start in 2021. The Lady Hornets (12-3) had no issues with Class 5A Palo Duro with a 25-12, 25-20, 25-20 victory.

Senior standout Nevaeh Rodriguez paved the way thanks to 12 kills, eight digs, and three aces.
