H.S. Volleyball roundup: Hereford grounds Eagles, Pampa stuns Dumas

The Hereford Lady Whitefaces made a statement on Saturday afternoon during their highly anticipated meeting against Canyon.

In front of an energized crowd at the Hereford Gym, the Lady Whitefaces took down defending champion Canyon in a three-game sweep, 25-17, 25-22, 25-16.

Hereford takes over sole possession of first place in District 3-4A at 4-0, improving to 26-13 overall.

The Lady Eagles see their 11-game district win streak come to an end, falling to 22-15, 3-1. It’s the first time since Canyon dropped into Class 4A it hasn’t been in first place.

Hereford’s stout duo of Darcy Dodd and Taytum Stowe had solid performances. Stowe, a talented sophomore, finished with nine kills and three blocks. Dodd, the senior leader, was equally efficient, totaling 10 kills, adding seven digs.

Teammate Rainey Aven did her job with 18 assists.

Canyon made its own mistakes with 41 unforced errors in the match. Emma Crenshaw finished with 10 kills, Bryli Contreras had a game-high 27 digs.

Pampa stuns Dumas in district clash

Pampa held off a late surge from Dumas to come away with a thrilling five-set victory in a District 4-4A showdown at The Pit in Pampa.

The Lady Harvesters (22-10 overall) are now all alone at the top of the district standings with a 4-0 mark.

The Demonettes (17-18, 3-1) see an 11-match district win streak come to an end dating back to last season.

Like Canyon, this is the first time Dumas hasn’t been in first place in the district since moving into Class 4A.

Pampa held a 2-1 set advantage before Dumas rallied to force a fifth and final game. However, the Lady Harvesters were able to hang on down the stretch.

Georgie Osborne pounded out 23 kills, followed by teammate Tynaa Mojica’s 15 kills and three blocks.

Celest Ostercamp made a game-high 36 digs while Hallie Sieck had 50 assists.

Dumas was led by Sydney Wackler’s 21 assists and Destiny Saldivar’s 13 kills.

Friday rewind

Every Amarillo-area team from District 3-5A played their games on Friday night.

Randall, Amarillo High and Lubbock Monterey all clinched Class 5A playoff with victories.

Randall (32-3, 12-0) swept Coronado at home by a 25-23, 25-15, 25–17 count. It’s the first postseason berth for Lady Raiders coach Haleigh Burns, whose team has now won 37 straight district matches.

Amarillo High (26-12, 11-1) swept Plainview at home, 25-8, 25-14, 25-11 Friday.

It was a tough night for Caprock’s playoff chances, falling at Lubbock Monterey (31-8, 11-1).

The Lady Longhorns (20-17) are 5-7 in district, and are currently tied for fifth with Lubbock Coronado (20-15, 5-7). Both are behind Lubbock Cooper (24-16, 6-6) for the final playoff spot.

Bushland clinches playoff berth

With a 25-10, 25-9, 25-12 sweep at Friona on Saturday, the Bushland Lady Falcons were able to clinch a Class 4A playoff spot.

The No. 1-ranked Lady Falcons have now won 81 straight district matches dating back to 2009.

Bushland improves to 37-1 overall and 5-0 in district. The Lady Falcons also run this seasons win streak to 29 straight games.

Bushland was led by Ansley Sims who totaled 11 assists with seven kills against Friona.

Highland Park and Fritch continue to roll

The top two teams in District 4-2A keep on winning.

On Saturday, No. 6 Highland Park moved to 10-0 in district and 29-8 overall with a 25-15, 25-15, 25-13 sweep of West Texas High.

Cynarah Rodriguez played superb with 12 assists and 10 kills.

Friday night, No. 7 Sanford-Fritch stayed a game back of the Lady Hornets beating Fort Elliott 25-9, 25-2, 25-7.

The Lady Eagles are 9-1 in district and 24-5 overall.

Tiffani Henri dished out 30 assists.
