H.S. Volleyball roundup: Canyon soars in district opener; Randall rolls, Bushland dominates

Canyon picked up its district schedule where it left off last season.

The Lady Eagles had no problems in the District 3-4A opener, sweeping Lubbock Estacado, 25-7, 25-10, 25-8 at home Saturday.

The defending 3-4A champions have won nine straight dating back to last year, moving to 1-0 in district and 20-14 overall.

Estacado falls to 14-16, 0-1.

Senior outside hitter Emma Crenshaw had a game-high nine kills to go with four aces.

Zoey Sparks added nine kills with three blocks.

District 3-5A

Randall keeps rolling

It was quite the week for the No. 3-ranked Randall Lady Raiders.

On Tuesday, the took down arch-rival Amarillo High to take the outright district lead.

On Saturday, the Lady Raiders showed no signs of slowing down, rolling over No. 8-ranked Lubbock Monterey in convincing fashion, 25-8, 25-10, 25-17 at the Randall high school gym.

Randall (29-3 overall) closes out the first half of Distrcict 3-5A play a perfect 8-0.

The Lady Raiders also push their district win streak to 34 straight games.

Monterey falls to 27-8, 6-2.

Randall senior Zoe Parker earned a double-double with 12 kills, 12 digs and four aces.

Amarillo High bounces back

Amarillo High put the Randall loss behind them with a dominant, 25-11, 25-20, 25-16, sweep of Lubbock High on Friday night.

The Lady Sandies close out the first half of District 3-5A action with a 7-1 mark and are 22-12 overall.

Currie Marusak had 13 kills in the victory.

Tascosa falls in five

For a second straight district match the Tascosa Lady Rebels came up just short, falling in a heartbreaking five-set loss at home to Frenship on Friday.

The Lady Tigers held off Tascosa, 25-16, 21-25, 23-25, 25-17, 10-15.

The Lady Rebels fall to 0-2 in District 2-6A and 17-14 overall. Frenship stays atop the district at 2-0 and 25-7.

Tascosa’s Taryn Galt had a team-high 28 kills, followed by Aaliyah Hardy’s 56 assists.

Dumas dismantles Perryton

Dumas flexed its muscle with its ninth straight district win dating back to last season.

The defending 4-4A champions were able to down Perryton 25-11, 25-7, 25-5 at home Saturday.

Niki Kent was superb for the Demonettes with 10 kills. Francine Hernandez added 17 assists.

Dumas is 1-0 in district and improves to 15-17 overall. Perryton is 10-9, 0-1.

Bushland wins again

Make it 26 straight wins for the No. 1-ranked Bushland Lady Falcons.

Bushland destroyed Dimmitt Beat Dimmitt, 25-5 25-3 25-4 on the road Saturday.

The powerful Lady Falcons are an eye-opening 35-1 overall and 2-0 in District 1-3A.

Outside hitter Berrilyn Boydston had 9 aces and nine digs in the victory. Setter Ansley Sims dished out 16 assists, followed by Taryn Shultz‘s 12 assists.

The No. 7-ranked Highland Park Lady Hornets went on the road to snag a 25-14, 25-6, 25-4, sweep against Fort Elliott on Saturday.

The Lady Hornets stay unbeaten in District 4-2A at 6-0, and are 25-8 overall. Cynarah Rodriguez had 12 kills and three blocks. Bailey Harrison had 14 aces.

It was a smooth bounce back game for No. 11-ranked Sanford-Fritch after losing a district showdown at Highland Park on Tuesday.

The Lady Eagles made quick work of Memphis with a 25-17, 25-8, 25-9, sweep.

Fritch is now 20-5 overall and 5-1 in district.

Memphis drops to 13-10, 4-2.

Senior Zoey Fry led Fritch with 16 kills and four blocks.
