H.S. Volleyball roundup: Bushland makes it 27 straight; Tascosa, Caprock and AHS get needed wins

There doesn’t look like anyone is slowing down the No. 1-ranked Bushland Lady Falcons anytime soon.

Bushland made it another sweep, this time against rival River Road on Tuesday night, 25-13, 25-13, 25-10, at the Bushland Gym.

The Lady Falcons, who hold the Texas Panhandle’s best record, are now 35-1 overall and 3-0 in District 1-3A.

Bushland also adds to its Amarillo-area best win streak of 27 straight matches.

Addyson Tiffin helped seize control early, leading the Lady Falcons with eight kills and two blocks.

Ansley Sims had 12 assists, followed by Taryn Schultz 11 assists, and Berrilyn Boydston added 12 digs.

River Road suffers its first district loss. The Lady Wildcats are now 9-20 overall and 1-1 in league action.

Tascosa earns first district win

Quay Smith was unbelievable in the middle Tuesday night, helping Tascosa get its much needed first district win of the year.

Smith dominated the net and there was nothing Odessa Permian could do to stop it, as the 5-foot-9 senior led the Lady Rebels to a 25-14, 24-26, 25-13, 28-26, victory.

Smith didn’t let anything by her ending the night with a career-high 11 blocks in a match Tascosa desperately needed.

The Lady Rebels move to 1-2 in District 2-6A and 18-14 overall. Permian falls to 1-2 in district and 15-16 overall.

Aliyah Hardy added to Smith’s effort with 40 assists and three aces. Kayden Bridges made a game-high 31 digs.

AHS takes season series from Cooper

Amarillo High opened the second half of District 3-5A action getting an impressive road win at Lubbock Cooper on Tuesday.

The Lady Sandies not only earn a sweep, 25-16, 25-17, 25-17, but also avenge a loss at Lubbock Cooper a year ago.

Senior Chelsie Freeman and Ashlyn Vinyard controlled the middle for AHS. Freeman knocked down a team-high seven kills and two blocks while Vinyard finished with five kills and three blocks.

AHS (23-12 overall) stays in sole possession of second place in district with an 8-1 mark. The Lady Pirates (23-14) fall back to .500 in district at 4-4.

Caprock stays in playoff hunt

It was a win Caprock needed to open the second round of District 3-5A play on Tuesday, and the Lady Longhorns got it.

Caprock fought off Plainview to battle to a 25-10, 26-24, 21-25, 25-9 victory at home, keeping themselves right in district playoff race.

The Lady Longhorns (19-15) are 4-5 in 3-5A, trailing Lubbock Cooper (23-14, 5-4) and Lubbock Coronado (20-12, 5-4) by one-game for the fourth and final playoff spot.

Caprock’s Raygan Lopez had 15 kills with eight digs, Aubrianna Hernandez finished with 49 assists.

Caprock plays host to Palo Duro at noon, Saturday.

Canyon, Hereford cruise to district W’s

As expected, Canyon and Hereford each earned road wins on Tuesday night.

The Lady Eagles took down Lamesa, 25-21, 25-8, 25-17.

Canyon (21-14, 2-0 in district) has now won 10 straight district matches dating back to last year.

The Lady Eagles were led by Zoey Sparks 11 kills and Mckenna Coppock’s 10 digs.

Hereford opened district play easing past Estacado on Tuesday, 25-5, 25-13, 25-8.

The Lady Whitefaces improve to 1-0 in District 3-4A and 23-13 overall.

Darcy Dodd showed a strong effort with seven kills and seven blocks.

Dumas cruises, Pampa wins opener

Dumas runs its District 4-4A win streak to 10 straight sweeping Borger, 25-16, 25-14, 25-12, on Tuesday at Borger.

Dumas stays undefeated in district at 2-0 and 16-17 overall. Borger drops to 11-18, 1-1.

Sydnee Wackler piled up 18 assists for the Demonettes. Teammate Aneesa Elizondo had 16 assists.

Pampa won its District 3-4A opener in Perryton on Tuesday.

The Lady Harvesters improve to 19-10, 1-0. Perryton has struggled in district at 0-2, and are 10-10 overall.

HIghland Park, Sanford-Fritch rolll

Cassidy DeShong was too much for Olton to handle leading Highland Park to a convincing 25-9, 25-12, 25-10, home victory Tuesday.

DeShong, a junior middle blocker and setter, dished out 12 assists, had seven kills to go with two blocks.

Teammate Cynarah Rodriguez was clutch by serving nine aces while adding 15 assists.

The No. 7 Lady Hornets stay all alone atop the District 2-4A standings at 7-0 and 26-8 overall.

Sanford-Fritch also took care of business downing West Texas High 25-13, 25-12, 25-15, on Tuesday.

Senior Zoe Fry had 22 kills with three blocks to lead the Lady Eagles.

Fritch (21-5 overall) stays one-game back of Highland Park in the District 4-2A race at 6-1.
