H.S. Volleyball roundup: AHS sweeps Caprock; Tascosa wins thriller, Bushland keeps on rolling

Amarillo High completed the season sweep of Caprock while staying right on the heels of Randall for first place in the District 3-5A chase.

Caprock fought hard but the Lady Sandies had too much fire power in a 25-20, 25-12, 25-20, sweep on Tuesday night at the CHS Activity Center.

AHS (25-12 overall) moves to 10-1 in District 3-5A action, a half game back of No. 3 Randall (31-3, 10-0).

Caprock drops to 20-16 and 5-6 in district. The Lady Longhorns remain in a three-way tie for fourth place with Lubbock Coronado and Lubbock Cooper.

Senior Hannah Shipman led AHS with 34 assists. Teammate Lauren Marler had a team-best 14 kills and four blocks.

Randall holds off Lubbock Cooper

The Randall Lady Raiders took on a tough battle from Lubbock Cooper, but were able to come away with a hard fought road win, 25-19, 23-25, 25-17, 25-23.

After taking the first set, the Lady Pirates led by Tatum Farmer’s 12 kills on the night, took the second set to tie the match.

Eventually, senior Bri Ford took over for the No. 3 Lady Raiders to close out the match in the final two sets.

Ford was a mismatch for Cooper, finishing with a game-high 18 kills and 11 digs.

Torryn Barrientosdished out 20 assists, adding 16 digs.

Randall has now won 36 straight district matches dating back to 2017, improving to 10-0 in District 3-5A and 31-3 overall.

Cooper (23-16) drops to 5-6 in district, staying in a three-way tie for fourth with Caprock and Lubbock Coronado.

Tascosa wins thriller in Midland

Tascosa’s run through the District 2-6A continues to be a flare for the dramatics.

The Lady Rebels played their third five-set game in five district matches, coming away with a thrilling win at Midland Lee on Tuesday night.

Five-set matches haven’t been kind to Tascosa of late, however, the Lady Rebels were able to change that luck taking down Midland Lee, 21-25, 27-25, 25-22, 22-25, 15-11.

More importantly, Tascosa has won three straight improving to 3-2 in District 2-6A and 20-14 overall. The Lady Rebels pull into a second place tie the Midland Lee (26-6 overall) at 3-2, and trail only Frenship (28-7, 5-0) at the halfway point of the league race.

Lauren Avila and Taryn Galt played big on the outside combining for 31 kills. Avila led the team with 16, Galt added 15. Aliyah Hardy had a game-high 49 assists.

Hereford rolls over Levelland

Hereford did a good job of not looking ahead to its showdown against Canyon on Saturday, taking care of Levelland in a 25-23, 25-18, 25-18 sweep on the road Tuesday.

The Lady Whitefaces stay perfect at 3-0 in District 3-4A and 25-13 overall. Hereford will face Canyon (22-13, 3-0) for outright first place of the district lead at 1 p.m. Saturday.

Darcy Dodd was tough to stop Tuesday, earning a double-double. The senior finished with a team-high 12 kills and 11 digs.

Levelland drops to 20-13, 1-2.

Bushland increases impressive streak

In a battle for district supremacy the No. 1-ranked Bushland Lady Falcons left no doubt who the better team was on Tuesday.

The Lady Falcons upended Tulia on the road by cruising to a 25-9, 25-11, 25-11 sweep.

The Lady Falcons increase an eye-opening district win streak that’s dates back a decade. With the victory, Bushland has now won 80 straight district matches that goes all the way back to 2009.

The Lady Falcons last district loss was to Highland Park in 2009.

First-year coach Jason Culpepper’s team improves to 36-1 overall this season and 4-0 in District 1-3A. Bushland also improves a season-long win streak to 28 straight games.

The Lady Falcons have dominated through the first half of District 1-3A. They’ve yet to drop a set, and have outscored their opponents 302-92 in points.

Ansley Sims racked up a double-double against Tulia with 20 assists and 10 kills. Teammate Berrilyn Boydston came up with 17 digs.

Tulia falls to 14-21, 3-1.

Highland Park flexes muscle

It was a quick night of work for No. 7 Highland Park against Memphis at home on Tuesday.

The Lady Hornets eased past the Lady Cyclones thanks to a 25-9, 25-11, 25-10 sweep to stay unbeaten in district action.

Highland Park (28-8 overall), which has clinched a Class 2A playoff spot, stays all alone in first place in District 4-2A at 9-0.

Senior Cynarah Rodriguez knocked down 14 kills with nine assists. Teammate Emma Patterson added a game-high seven aces and six digs.

The No. 11 Lady Eagles are 23-5 overall and 8-1 in district play.
