H.S. Volleyball playoff roundup: Canyon, Dumas, Hereford advance; Bushland, Wildorado roll

For a third straight year the Canyon volleyball team is headed to back to the Class 4A regional quarterfinals.

The Lady Eagles did that by taking care of Monahans, 25-20, 25-16, 27-25 in an area round match Saturday at Frenship

Canyon (28-15 overall) goes for another gold ball when they square off against another Texas Panhandle foe Pampa (27-12) at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday at Borger in a regional quarterfinal.

Zoe Sparks charged the Lady Eagles up against Monahans with 12 kills. Lauren Bell added 19 assists, while teammate Bryli Contreras tallied 19 digs.

Canyon def. Monahans 25-20, 25-16, 27-25.

Dumas and Hereford set to collide

Dumas and Hereford won its area matches on Saturday afternoon.

The Demonettes made quick work of Clint Mountainview with a convincing sweep (25-23, 25-8, 25-17) in Denver City.

Jadan Price made 18 digs, as Sydney Wackler dished 20 assists.

Hereford dropped a set in its area round match, but still took out Andrews 25-13, 25-18, 14-25, 25-21 in Lubbock.

Darcy Dodd and Tatum Stow combined for 31 kills. Dodd made a team-high 16, followed by Stow’s 15.

Dumas (25-18) and Hereford (31-14) will play in a regional quarterfinal Tuesday at a time and place to be determined.

Bushland keeps on rolling

Nobody maybe playing better volleyball than No. Bushland.

The Lady Falcons demolished Sonora in a Class 3A area match Saturday afternoon in Seminole, 25-13; 25-6; 25-11.

Bushland (43-1 overall) is headed to back to the regional quarterfinals where they’ll meet up with a familiar playoff opponent, Denver City (38-9) on Tuesday at 6 p.m. at Lubbock Cooper.

Bushland’s Shaylee Laubhan and Kinley Rudder each had 10 kills against Sonora. Setter Taryn Schultz added 12 assists with four aces.

Fritch downs Van Horn

District 4-2A continues to have a strong showing in the postseason.

Highland Park won its area match Thursday, and Saturday, Sanford-Fritch followed with a sweep (25-13, 25-15, 25-7) of Van Horn in Denver City.

Senior Zoe Fry was the spark for the Lady Eagles, pounding down 23 kills with five blocks.

Sanford-Fritch is back in the Class 2A regional quarterfinals against Wink at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday at Frenship.

Fritch def. Van Horn 25-13, 25-15, 25-7.

Wildorado continues historic week

What a week it’s been for the Wildorado Lady Mustangs.

Tuesday, Wildorado won its first playoff game in school history, and on Saturday lightning struck twice.

The Lady Mustangs cruised in a Class 1A area round match, downing Sierra Blanca 25-20 25-14 25-18 in Seminole.

A youthful team without a senior is gaining confidence by the set. Jessica Merrell had six kills in the victory with two blocks. Angela Esparza added 16 digs and Chloe Aduddell racked up five aces.

Wildorado improves to 17-15 overall and will face Klondike in the regional quarterfinals at a time and place to be determined.

Wildorado def. Sierra Blanca 25-20 25-14 25-18.

Record: Wildorado 17-15.
