Canyon crushes Borger to open UIL playoffs

The opening night of the UIL playoffs saw Canyon pick up how they ended its district schedule.

The red hot Lady Eagles wasted no time jumping on Borger, taking the first set with ease, on their way to a convincing sweep (25-12, 25-15, 25-18) in a Class 4A bidistirct matchup at the Caprock Activity Center on Monday night.

Canyon, who earned a share of the District 3-4A championship with Hereford, improves to 27-15 overall. The Lady Eagles advance to play Monahans or Clint in the area round at a time and place to be determined.

Borger (15-22) didn’t have an answer for Canyon outside hitter Zoey Sparks. The junior tallied 12 kills and a block. Teammate Lauren Bell was superb, earning a double-double, 20 assists and 10 digs.

Dumas takes down Lamesa in playoff opener

After dropping the first set, Dumas took over to take down Lamesa, 25-27, 25-14, 25-10, 25-9, in the Class 4A bidistrict round Monday night in Plainview.

The Demonettes move to 24-18 overall, and will face Tuesday’s winner of Clint Mount Mountain View and Pecos in the area round.

Lamesa’s season comes to an end at 22-17.

Dumas shook off a rough first set Monday, taking over the momentum behind strong play of Jaden Price, Sydnee Wackler and Niki Kent. Price was all over the floor, racking up 34 digs.

Wackler dished out 26 assists, and Kent was huge on the net with 13 kills and seven and a half blocks.

Class 3A

Bushland opens playoffs in blow out fashion

The No. 1-ranked Bushland Falcons opened the Class 3A playoffs by breezing past Littlefield, 25-12, 25-15, 25-18, in a bidistrict matchup in Hereford.

The dominant Lady Falcons were in control the entire way thanks to the steady play of Ansley Sims, who had a game-high 24 assists to go with eight kills.

Kinley Rudder added a team-high 12 kills, followed by Berrilyn Boydston’s 15 digs.

Bushland increases its eye-opening record to 41-1 overall, winning 36 straight matches.

Bushland advances to the area round where it now faces Sonora (24-12), at a time and place to be determined. Sonora defeated Crane in its bidistrict match Monday night.

Bushland def. Littlefield 25-12, 25-15, 25-18.

Records:Bushland 41-1; Littlefield 10-11.
