H.S. Softball roundup: Randall rolls Plainview, AHS sneaks past Caprock; Hereford wins wild one

A big fifth inning sent the game home early as the Randall Lady Raiders run-ruled Plainview in a District 3-5A contest Tuesday afternoon at the Randall Softball Complex.

Randall improves to 2-1 in district play, and 11-9-1 overall, while Plainview drops to 8-13, 1-2.

The Lady Raiders led throughout and took an 8-4 advantage into the bottom of the fifth before exploding for a 10-run home half.

Jacelyn Cornwell led Randall going 3-for-4 at the plate with a pair of doubles and four RBIs. Teammate and lead-off hitter Lauren Garcia added a 3-run double in the victory.

District 3-5A

Lady Sandies get late run to down Caprock

Tatem Pendergraft scored the eventual game-winning run in the top of the eighth that lifted Amarillo High to a key District 3-5A win at Caprock on Tuesday afternoon.

With the bases loaded in the top of the eighth, Caprock attempted to pick off Lindsey Elizondo at first, allowing Pendergraft to cross home.

The Lady Sandies jump into a first place tie with Caprock at 2-1 in the district race and move to 7-8 overall. The Lady Longhorns fall to 6-5 overall.

AHS was led at the plate by Pendergraft, who doubled and scored four runs. Kylee Landsbury added a double, and teammate Tessia Guzman drove in a pair of runs.

Caprock’s Aubrianna Hernandez went 4–for-4 with three RBIs.

Tascosa nabs first district win

A 13-run bottom of the second was more than enough for the Tascosa Lady Rebels to cruise to their first District 3-5A victory, 26-4, against Palo Duro on Tuesday at the THS Softball Complex.

Lady Rebels slugger Makenna Hall torched Lady Dons pitching, as the senior hit for the cycle, lacing a single, earning a double, triple and a home run for a 5-for-5 day, driving in four RBIs.

Preslee Shelton was equally impressive going 4-for-4 at the dish with four RBIs of her own.

Tascosa is now 1-2 in district and 5-9 overall. Palo Duro drops to 1-7, 1-2.

District 4-4A

Walk-off homer leads Hereford past Pampa

Alyssa Mireles knocked a game-winner two-run homer on a 1-0 count that gave Hereford a wild 19-18 home win against Pampa in a District 4-4A game on Tuesday afternoon.

This contest saw a little bit of everything for fans in attendance. There were a total of 16 extra-base hits, including a combined six home runs. This game also saw a total of 18 errors.

Most of the scoring came in the later innings. Hereford led 15-11 heading into the top of the seventh only to see the Lady Harvesters plate seven in the top half of the seventh to take an 18-15 lead. That didn’t stop the Lady Whitefaces as they responded with four runs in the bottom of the seventh that included Mireles’ two-run walk-off bomb. Mireles finished the day 2-for-5 at the plate with three RBIs, and scored three runs. Despite the loss, Pampa’s Sydney Larkin was 4-for-5 with a double, a 3-run homer, tallying five RBIs.

Hereford (4-16) moves to 1-2 in district. Pampa falls to 9-4-1, 1-2.

Canyon blanks Borger

Sophomore Kylie Knowles did a little bit of everything to keep Canyon perfect in District 4-4A as the Lady Eagles shutout Borger, 10-0, in Borger on Tuesday.

Knowles threw five shutout innings, scattering two hits and racking up 11 strikeouts. Offensively, Knowles also did damage lacing a double on a 1-for-3 performance. Isabel Padilla was 3-for-4 tallying an RBI, as teammate Lia Gutierrez delivered a 3-run home run.

Canyon (9-7-2) stays atop the district standings at 3-0. Borger falls to 10-3, 1-2.

Dumas pummels Perryton

A quick start for Dumas propelled the Demonettes to a dominating 26-0 shutout of Perryton during a District 4-4A game Monday at the Rangerettes Softball Complex.

Dumas improves to 8-8 overall and 2-1 in district while Perryton falls to 5-6, 0-3.

The bats were out in full force for the Demonettes as Melany Granados slammed a home run with two doubles for four RBIs. Teammates Galy Davila, Lauren Holt Galy Davila, and Briana Vargas all added doubles and homered with four RBIs a piece.

Vargas also a superb outing in the circle tossing five shutout innings with six strikeouts.

Bushland stays hot

Bushland continued its tear on District 1-3A opponents taking down Dalhart 30-0 on the road Tuesday afternoon.

Through the first three games of league play the Lady Falcons have outscored River Road, Canadian and Dalhart by a combined, 88-0.

Bushland is in complete control of first place in the district race at 3-0 overall and 17-2-1 overall. Dalhart falls to 6-6, 2-1.

Third baseman Jaycee Adams was stellar at the plate going a perfect 5-for-5 with two doubles, a triple, added a single and totaled five RBIs.

Avery Sena, Jilli Howell, and Sydney Stewart all homered in the victory for victory.

Howell also worked all five innings, allowing only one hit to earn the win.

River Road run-rules Canadian

The River Road Lady Wildcats went on the road and earned their first district win by run-ruling Canadian 20-5 on Tuesday.

Shiyan Lozano was the star of the game both in the circle and in the batters box. At the plate, Lozano tore up Canadian pitching going 2-for-4 with a homer and five RBIs. In the circle, Lozano went all five innings giving up one hit, an earned run and racked up 12 K’s.

River Road improves to 7-10 overall and 1-2 in district. Canadian is now 3-15, 0-3.
