H.S. Soccer roundup: Amarillo High soccer teams clinch district championships

Both Amarillo High soccer teams captured outright District 3-5A championships thanks to shutouts of Caprock during Monday’s regular season finale at Dick Bivins Stadium.

The Sandies opened the game with a goal from Braden Williams in the opening minute that stood up throughout in a 1-0 victory over the Longhorns. AHS finishes district at 7-0-1 overall, including an undefeated regular season at 11-0-3.

On the girls side, the Lady Sandies took the outright district title thanks to a 2-0 blanking of Caprock. Lily Sobey scored on a free kick, followed by a Saizlee Carlton goal off an assist from Ciana Carlton. AHS finishes the regular season at 13-1-2, and claimed the district title with a 7-0-1 mark.

The UIL Class 5A playoffs begin Friday, March 26.

Palo Duro inches closer to history

Palo Duro is getting very close to the Amarillo ISD record for team goals in a season. The Dons defeated Tascosa 11-2 on Monday giving Palo Duro 112 total goals on the year. That’s just six shy of the AISD record of 118.

Palo Duro (17-1-1, 6-1-1) finished second in District 3-5A.

Pampa claims girls championship

Pampa’s Annamarie Murray scored on an assist from Yessenia Rios in the 25th minute for the lone goal of a 1-0 win against Dumas in the regular season finale Friday. With the victory the Lady Harvesters take the outright District 2-4A title with a record of 11-6-2, 6-1-2.
