H.S. Soccer roundup: AHS-Palo Duro boys battle to tie; AHS, Randall girls roll

Monday and Tuesday’s top performers

Boys

Amarillo High and Palo Duro had an outstanding District 3-5A match on Monday night at Dick Bivins Stadium. The back and forth battle remained scoreless until the Sandies struck first in the second half on a Braeden Williamson breakaway goal in the 65th minute. The Dons were able to answer and force a tie not 10 minutes later when Uxmal Morales found the back of the net in the 75th minute. AHS (8-0-3 overall) are 3-0-2 in district with 11 points, and hold a one-point advantage for the league lead over Palo Duro (10-1-1), who is 3-1-1 in district with 10 points.

Juan Garcia of Randall tallied two goals to lift the Raiders past a very scrappy Tascosa team, 2-1, on Tuesday night.

Borger’s Allan Cardenas netted a hat trick, and added an assist during the Bulldogs 6-0 win against Canyon on Tuesday. Teammate Brian Nava chipped in with two assists and a goal of his own.

Girls

Lilly Sobey scored a hat trick for Amarillo High during a 5-1 win against Palo Duro. All three of Sobey’s goals all came in the second half. Viviana Gomez added two assists.

Randall blanked Tascosa 3-0 to keep pace with Amarillo High in the District 3-5A race. Goalie Bradaisha Smith stopped a shot for the shutout.

Canyon’s Erin Folkner netted a pair of goals as the Lady Eagles blanked Borger, 2-0.
