Lady sandies bounce Bel Air

Three first half goals were more than enough for the Amarillo High Lady Sandies in a 4-0 route of El Paso Bel Air during a Class 5A area round match at Ratliff Stadium in Odessa on Tuesday.

Viviana Gomez netted two goals in the victory, while teammate Lily Sobey scored a goal and dished out an assist.

Canyon improves to 12-6-3 overall and will now face Stephenville (15-2-2) in a regional quarterfinal contest at a time and place to be determined.

Class 5A boys

PD boys advance

The Palo Duro boys soccer made a 2-0 lead standup for a 2-1 win against El Paso Bel Air during the Class 5A area round at Ratliff Stadium in Odessa on Monday.

The Dons took a 1-0 lead at intermission thanks to an Angel Sanchez goal off a Jaime Carrillo assist at the 21 minute mark of the first half. In the second half, Palo Duro picked up much needed insurance when Eduardo Aguirre found the back of the net at the 43 minute mark, pushing the advantage to 2-0.

The Dons (19-1-1) advance to the regional quarterfinals to face El Paso Bowie (17-3-1) at a time and place to be determined. Bowie dismantled Randall in the area round Tuesday, 5-0.

AHS falls late

The Amarillo High Sandies couldn’t hold on to a late lead, falling to El Paso Del Valle 2-1 in overtime in a Class 5A area round matchup at Ratliff Stadium in Odessa on Tuesday.

The Sandies scored their lone goal on a Braden Wilson penalty kick at the 51st minute mark, taking a 1-0 lead. However, Del Valle scored a tying goal in the final six minutes, then a winning goal in overtime.

AHS, the District 3-5A regular season champion, ends a great year at 12-1-3.

Borger rolls on

Borger advances to the third round of the playoffs for the first time since 2006 after defeating Graham 2-1 on Monday night in a Class 4A area round contest at Frenship High School.
