Class 6A

Friday’s games

Midland Lee (7-0, 2-0) at Tascosa (5-2, 1-1), 7:30 p.m.

I guarantee the Rebels will win this one (I know ha, ha but true). The Midland Lee Rebels have been on a season-long roll Lee is impressive getting it done on both sides of the ball. The Tascosa Rebels are a more desperate team of the two when it comes to a district title because of the loss to Mojo. Go with Tascosa at home. … Tascosa 31, Lee 28 (OT).

Odessa Permian (4-3, 2-0) at Midland High (1-6, 0-2), 7:30 p.m.

Permian is legit with its three losses to likely playoff teams. Midland continues to struggle putting points on the board. … Permian 45,  Midland 7.

Frenship (4-2, 1-1) at Odessa High (2-5, 0-2), 7:30 p.m.

Frenship has the better offense makes it back-to-back district win after opening loss to Lee. … Frenship 38, Odessa 14.

Class 5A

Friday’s game

Caprock (2-5, 2-1) vs. Amarillo High (5-2, 3-0), 3 p.m.

This game was moved from Thursday due to inclement weather. This will be interesting and possibly played in snow flurries. Rock hung with Cooper for 2 1/2 quarters before falling and is serious about defending its district title. AHS quarterback Will Maynard’s improvement has pumped serious life into the Sandies offense. … AHS 31, Caprock 20.

Palo Duro (3-5, 1-3) at Lubbock Monterey (2-5, 0-3), 7:30 p.m.

Both teams know they HAVE to win to keep any playoff hopes alive. Monterey has lost five in a row and put up 48 on Coronado last week and still lost by 10. Palo Duro was stung by AHS last week and struggled on offense. … Monterey 45, Palo Duro 28.

Lubbock High (1-6, 0-3) at Abilene Cooper (8-0, 4-0), 7:30 p.m. Shotwell Stadium.

Ouch. …. Cooper 61, Lubbock 13.

Randall (2-5), 1-1) at Abilene Wylie (1-6, 1-1), 7 p.m.

Randall snagged a nice and much-needed win over Plainview last week. Wylie continues to baffle at the 5A level. Don’t be fooled by the overall records. This one will be intense because both know the team winning sees their playoff dreams become reality. … Randall 17, Wylie 14.

The Matadors speed is hard to match. … Estacado 42, Perryton 13,

Friday’s games

Dumas (7-0, 0-0) at Canyon (6-1, 0-0), 7 p.m.

Finally. The Texas Panhandle’s most competitive district gets underway. Sure, all these teams are in the playoffs, but seeding for the postseason is extremely crucial. This is a game that’s been circled since August. The story of the night is a potent Canyon offense going up against a physical Dumas defense. … Dumas 26, Canyon 21.

Hereford (4-3, 0-0) at Pampa (6-1, 0-0), 7 p.m.

Hereford has owned this rivalry winning the past five meetings dating back to 2014. Pampa loves to air it out with gunslinger Tucker Bridwell. The Herd on the other hand are all about lining up and hitting teams in the mouth. … Hereford 31, Pampa 23.

Dalhart (4-4, 1-1) at Levelland (3-4, 1-0), 7 p.m.

If the Golden Wolves want to fight for second place in the district they’ll need to get a big road win. They’ll have to slow down the Lobos to make that happen… Levelland 34, Dalhart 24.

Bushland (7-0, 2-0) at Shallowater (4-3, 2-0), 7 p.m.

Muleshoe (0-7, 0-2) at River Road (2-5, 0-2), 7 p.m.

Nobody is more due for a district win than the Wildcats. In two district losses to Shallowater and Slaton, River Road has seen victories slip through its fingers. That doesn’t happen at home. … River Road 42, Muleshoe 7.

Friona (6-1, 1-1) at Canadian (7-0, 2-0), 7 p.m.

A Friona loss to Childress keeps this game from having the state’s attention. The Chieftains will want to seize early momentum to stay on the field with the state’s No. 1 team. … Canadian 42, Friona 16.

Childress (1-6, 1-1) at Dimmitt (1-6, 0-2), 7 p.m.

It’s a battle of Bobcats as well as a battle of two teams needing a key district win. Dimmitt has shown improvement by the week, but Childress’ defense is the difference. … Childress 30, Dimmitt 14.

Tulia (4-3, 1-1) at Spearman (4-3, 1-1), 7 p.m.

This has playoff seeding written all over it. Take the Lynx at home. … Spearman 29, Tulia 21.

The Panthers have torn through opponents so far, and this matchup against the Bobcats will be no different. … Panhandle 52, Sunray 16

Bovina (3-4, 1-1) at Seagraves (2-5, 0-2), 7 p.m.

The Eagles are a team desperate for a win, but the Mustangs are wanting another district victory to up their playoff stock. … Bovina 34, Seagraves 26

Farwell (5-2, 2-0) at Plains (0-7, 0-2), 7 p.m.

Farwell makes a haul to the South Plains to face a stagnant Cowboys team. I’m extremely confident to say the Steers stay unbeaten in district. … Farwell 42, Plains 6.

Vega (6-2, 1-1) at Gruver (5-2, 1-0), 7 p.m.

One of the premier games in the Texas Panhandle takes place in Gruver. This matchup has big playoff seeding on the line, on top of being a great matchup. Look for the Longhorns to take a wild offensive performance … Vega 35, Gruver 28.

Booker (1-6, 0-2) at Clarendon (4-3, 0-1), 7 p.m.

The Broncos have seen their struggles, but a win over the Kiowas puts them in the drivers seat for a playoff spot. … Clarendon 42, Booker 18

Wellington (6-1, 2-0) at Shamrock (2-5, 1-1), 7 p.m.

The next step for Skyrockets to stay unbeaten in district, is the Fighting Irish. Shamrock has a district victory under its belt, but will likely feel the wrath of a near perfect Wellington. … Wellington 49, Shamrock 12.

Class 1A

Friday’s games

McLean (6-1, 0-0) at White Deer (6-1, 0-0), 7:30 p.m. This is one of the biggest games of the week at the statewide level in any classification. The defending champs have to make a stand on defense if they want a shot at beating this White Deer team. The Bucks have to figure out how to contain running back Ben Crockett, something that’s yet to be done. This is a toss up, but home field advantage may be what the Bucks need to get it done. … White Deer 58, McLean 52.

Miami (5-2, 0-0) at Valley (3-3, 0-0), 6:30 p.m.

This game was moved from Thursday due to inclement weather. The records of these two teams does not fully describe the types of teams they are. Valley has faced a tougher schedule and will show that it has made them a better team. … Valley 45, Miami 21.

Lefors (4-3, 2-0) at Groom (5-2, 1-0), 7:30 p.m.

This is a matchup that will prove who’s the top dog in this District 1-1A Division II. The Tigers have been the stronger team all season and will continue to prove it once more. … Groom 66 Lefors 18

Follett (0-5, 0-1) at Higgins (1-7, 0-2), 7:30 p.m. Follett has been held winless all season, but continues to show improvement. Expect coach Andy Copley and his Panthers to get their first win this season. …  Follett 50, Higgins 21.
