Class 6A

Friday’s games

Tascosa (5-1, 1-0) at Odessa Permian (3-3, 1-0), 7:30 p.m. 

Don’t be fooled by Mojo’s unimpressive overall record. Those three losses are to teams owning a combined record of 17-1. Even more intriguing is the fact that both teams run the same triple option-type offense. Tascosa is a proven road team at 3-0, owning wins in El Paso and twice in Abilene. Add Odessa to that list of road city wins …. Tascosa 35,Permian 24

Midland High (1-5, 0-1) at Frenship (4-2, 0-1), 7:30 p.m. 

Frenship is just too much for Midland and motivated after opening district with the loss to Lee. … Frenship 48, Midland 13.

Odessa High (2-4, 0-1) at Midland Lee (6-0, 1-0), 7:30 p.m. 

Lee is legit. Nuff said. … Lee 45, Odessa 7

Class 5A 

Thursday’s game

Amarillo High (4-2, 2-0) vs. Palo Duro (3-4, 1-2), 7 p.m.

This is the longest ongoing rivalry of the AISD first played in 1955. AHS has too much firepower and riding high off win over Coronado. … AHS 35, Palo Duro 14.

Friday’s games

Abilene Cooper (7-0, 3-0) at Caprock (2-4, 2-0), 7:30 p.m. 

The Rock is on a revival winning its last two after opening with four losses. But Cooper isn’t 7-0 by accident with its prolific offense averaging 54 points a game in district. … Cooper 54, Caprock 21.

Lubbock Coronado (3-4, 1-2) vs. Lubbock Monterey (2-4, 0-2), 7:30 p.m.

Big time rivalry game for these two Lubbock schools.  Monterey is steeped in a four-game losing streak but was off last week to mend things. Coronado’s offense led by Sawyer Robertson will be the difference in this one – a wild one, for sure. … Coronado 45, Monterey 42.

Plainview (1-5, 0-1) at Randall (1-5, 0-1), 7 p.m. 

Both teams are desperate for momentum and a district win. The Raiders at home will pull this one out. … Randall 24, Plainview 13.

Friday’s games

Levelland (2-4, 0-0) at Borger (1-5, 0-1), 7 p.m. 

The Bulldogs play extremely hard, but haven’t been able to put it all together. Levelland is in the same boat, however, the Lobos have the better offense. … Levelland 28, Borger 13.

Lubbock Estacado (7-0, 1-0) at Dalhart (4-3, 1-0), 7:30 p.m.

The Matadors stay perfect. … Estacado 48, Dalhart 16.

River Road (2-4, 0-1) at Slaton (3-3, 0-1), 7 p.m. 

River Road gave Shallowater all it wanted last week. If the Wildcats match that effort and control the line a scrimmage they could come away with a W. … River Road 27, Slaton 21.

Littlefield (3-3, 1-0) at Bushland (6-0, 1-0), 7 p.m. 

Nobody is slowing down the Falcons right now. … Bushland 48, Littlefield 14.

Canadian (6-0, 1-0) at Childress (1-5, 1-0), 7 p.m.

A year ago this was the game of the year in the Texas Panhandle. After Childress knocked off Friona last week to earn its first win of the season, this year’s meeting is more interesting. The Bobcats are tough at home but the Wildcat defense is rock solid. … Canadian 35, Childress 7.

Spearman (4-2, 1-0) at Friona (5-1, 0-1), 7 p.m.

The Chieftains first loss of the season came at a rough time, being a district opener. Friona needs to rebound to stay in the playoff hunt but the Lynx aren’t a team that’s not easy to bounce back against. … Spearman 23, Friona 20.

Dimmitt (1-5, 0-1) at Tulia (3-3, 0-1), 7 p.m.

Both teams need a victory to improve their playoff hopes going. … Tulia 33, Dimmitt 16.

Panhandle (5-1, 1-0) at Highland Park (2-4, 0-1), 7 p.m.

Panthers are a mismatch for a young Hornets team. … Panhandle 47, Highland Park 13.

Sanford-Fritch (1-5, 1-0) at West Texas High (4-2, 1-0), 7 p.m.

The Eagles found their first win of the season over a winless Sunray. West Texas has proven themselves leading up to district play. … West Texas High 49, Sanford-Fritch 18.

Boys Ranch (0-6, 0-1) at Sunray (0-6, 0-1), 7 p.m. 

The Roughriders travel to Sunray with the winner not only getting their first victory on the year, but also keeping a playoff shot intact. … Sunray 19, Boys Ranch 6.

Springlake-Earth (2-4) at Farwell (4-2, 1-0), 7 p.m.

Farewell has seen its ups and downs, however, with the struggling Wolverines coming to town, look for a Steers victory. … Farwell 34, Springlake-Earth 20.

Plains (0-6, 0-1) at Bovina (2-4, 0-1), 7 p.m.

Bovina opened district with a loss, but will bounce back Friday. … Bovina 35, Plains 18.

Stratford (6-1, 1-0) at Vega (6-1, 1-0) 7 p.m.

One of the premiere district matchups will take place Friday night at Vega as the No. 4-ranked Elks come to town. Stratford has been on a roll and will continue its stellar play. … Stratford 44, Vega 28.

Gruver (4-2, 0-0) at Booker (1-5, 0-1), 7 p.m.

Aim for the Greyhounds to take command early in this one. … Gruver 56, Booker 13.

Memphis (1-5, 0-1) at Quanah (1-5, 0-1) 7 p.m.

The winner of this district contest keeps a playoff shot in its sight. The Indians will be tough to beat at home. … Quanah 22, Memphis 13.

Shamrock (2-4, 1-0) at Wheeler (5-1, 1-0), 7 p.m.

It’s a historic rivalry in another installment of the battle of Wheeler county. The Mustangs have been impressive so far this year, while the Irish have seen their struggles.

Wheeler 49, Shamrock 28

Munday (2-3, 0-1) at Wellington (5-1, 1-0), 7 p.m.

The Skyrockets mangle the Moguls. That’s the headline. … Wellington 56, Munday 12.

Class 1A

Thursday’s games

Groom (4-2, 0-0) at Hedley (1-6, 1-1), 7:30 p.m. The Tigers are hungry for a district championship and the hunt begins tomorrow night in Hedley. Groom 62, Hedley 14

Higgins (1-6, 0-1) at Lefors (3-2, 1-0), 7:30 p.m.

With one district win in the book, the Pirates will look to stay ahead of the pack. The Lefors offense has struggled at times this season but should find a rhythm early in this one… Lefors 54, Higgins 10

Wildorado (6-0) vs. Meadow JV, 6:30 P.M. Kress It’d be fun to see what the Mustangs could do in a district. As young as this team is next year maybe one of big things to come for coach Ty James. For  now, the Mustangs continue to improve where they can… Wildorado 52, Meadow JV 24

Friday’s games

Follett (0-4) at Miami (4-2), 7:30 p.m. 

Much has changed for the Panthers since their state championship appearance last season. They are still looking for their first win of the season and Miami is a formidable opponent. The Warriors will look to get the win before district play begins… Miami 56, Follett 22

Happy (5-2, 1-0) at Nazareth (3-2, 0-0), 7:30 p.m. This game was a thriller a year ago as the Swifts held off the Cowboys in a defensive struggle. Expect the same intensity and another close game. It’s a toss up, but Happy’s speed and premier back Kristian Wilhite will be the difference maker…. Happy 45, Nazareth 40.
