Don’t be fooled by Mojo’s unimpressive overall record. Those three losses are to teams owning a combined record of 17-1. Even more intriguing is the fact that both teams run the same triple option-type offense. Tascosa is a proven road team at 3-0, owning wins in El Paso and twice in Abilene. Abilene Cooper (7-0, 3-0) at Caprock (2-4, 2-0), 7:30 p.m.
The Rock is on a revival winning its last two after opening with four losses. But Cooper isn’t 7-0 by accident with its prolific offense averaging 54 points a game in district. … Cooper 54, Caprock 21.
Lubbock Coronado (3-4, 1-2) vs. Lubbock Monterey (2-4, 0-2), 7:30 p.m.
Big time rivalry game for these two Lubbock schools. Monterey is steeped in a four-game losing streak but was off last week to mend things. Coronado’s offense led by Sawyer Robertson will be the difference in this one – a wild one, for sure. … Coronado 45, Monterey 42.
