Thursday’s games

Class 5A

Tascosa (6-1, 3-0) vs Caprock (2-4, 1-1) 7 p.m.

The Rock shocked us all beating Monterey last week,

Tascosa beat AHS and rides a 5-game winning streak.

Caprock must again use Carrasco to ground and pound,

No. 4 Tascosa clinches playoff, simply the best around. … Tascosa 42, Caprock 21

Palo Duro (4-2, 0-2) at Lubbock High (1-6, 0-3) 7 p.m., Lowrey Field at PlainsCapital Park, Lubbock

The Dons know this is a must-win for playoff dreams,

Lubbock High the same and will have the schemes.

Coach Mims and troops were on a bye last week,

The rest means things for Lubbock look bleak. … Palo Duro 35, Lubbock 14

Abilene Wylie (2-4, 0-1) at Wichita Falls High (1-5, 0-1), 7 p.m., Memorial Stadium, Wichita Falls

For both this is one of the must-win games,

It’s Wylie with the batter offense who lays claims. … Wylie 27, Old High 17

Class 1A

Miami (2-4) at Hedley (7-0), 7 p.m.

The winner of this game puts themselves in great position for a playoff spot. The Owls have a lot going for themselves this season, and are on the verge of something special. With all the momentum give them the advantage in a toss up. … Hedley 66, Miami 60

Friday’s games

Class 5A

Lubbock Coronado (3-3, 2-0) at Amarillo High (5-2, 2-1), 7 p.m.

Bounce back week for the Sandies after the THS loss,

Coronado, suddenly three wins a row looks boss.

I predict the winner of this will be the No. 2 seed,

AHS’ Grey, Wade, Garcia and Laminack will succeed. … Amarillo High 31, Lubbock Coronado 21

Plainview (1-5, 0-1) at Randall (3-3. 1-0), 7 p.m.

Randall looked good opening district against Old High,

Burd and Co. can really, really fly.

Plainview might be 1-5 but these Dawgs still bite,

Nope. It’s all Randall on Homecoming night. … Randall 34, Plainview 17

Lubbock Cooper (5-1, 1-0) at Wichita Falls Rider (6-0, 1-0) 7 p.m., Memorial Stadium, Wichita Falls

Randall disagrees, many think this is a district title game,

Who knows, but the winner definitely gets some fame. … Cooper 21, Rider 20

Last week: 5-1 (.833)

Season: 21-5 (.807)

Class 4A

Perryton (1-5, 0-0) at Levelland (1-6, 0-1), 7 p.m.

Both of these teams need a win to get into the conversation for a playoff berth, and while the loser isn’t eliminated, it will be a hard climb back into contention. Perryton drew the open week to start district play so the Rangers had an extra week to prepare for Levelland. That will give them an edge and help them get off on the right foot to open district even though they’ll have to do it on the road. … Perryton 33, Levelland 20

Borger (3-4, 1-0) at Lubbock Estacado (4-3, 1-0), 7 p.m.

This is for the outright district lead and likely a playoff spot, or at least an easy path to one. Borger has shown progress lately and was impressive in beating Levelland at home in last week’s district opener. But Estacado represents a huge leap up in class for the Bulldogs, who are a heavy underdog. The Matadors have too many athletes to deal with for Borger. … Estacado 45, Borger 23

Dumas (3-2) at Ulysses, Kan. (2-4), 7 p.m.

Dumas is the only team who doesn’t have an open week before opening District 3-4A Division I play next week, but the Demons need a game to fill out their predistrict schedule, even if they have to cross two state lines to play. They crushed an out of state opponent when they hosted Roswell, N.M. last week, and should do the same this week. … Dumas 45, Ulysses 6

Class 3A

River Road (5-2, 1-0) at Bushland (4-2, 1-0), 7 p.m.

It’s a battle for district supremacy at Falcons Stadium on Friday night. Bushland is the favorite with Kash Bradley and a stingy defense, but will Bushland be able to slow down a potent River Road ground game. … Bushland 38, River Road 23

Dalhart (1-5, 0-0) at Littlefield (3-4, 0-1), 7 p.m.

Both of these teams are in dyer need of a win. The Golden Wolves are hoping a bye week did them some good, while the Wildcats are hoping to bounce back from a loss. … Dalhart 27, Littlefield 23

Childress (7-0, 3-0) at Friona (6-0, 2-0), 7 p.m.

It’s hard to find a better matchup in the Texas Panhandle. The Bobcats have been on top of their game all season, but the Chieftains want to prove their for real in a massive way. Both have multiple weapons so it will come down to which team is more physical. … Childress 40, Friona 24

Canadian (5-1, 2-0) at Dimmitt (2-5, 0-3), 7 p.m.

The Wildcats keep their impressive district win streak intact. … Canadian 47, Dimmitt 14

Sanford-Fritch (2-4, 1-0) at Farwell (5-1, 1-0), 7 p.m.

The Steers firepower will be a lot for the Eagles overcome in this district contest. … Farwell 47, Fritch 16

Boys Ranch (1-5, 0-1) at Olton (4-2, 0-1), 7 p.m.

This will be an important road contest that could really put Roughriders in prime playoff position with a win. … Olton 27, Boys Ranch 21

Ropes (5-1, 0-1) at Bovina (2-5, 1-0), 7 p.m.

The Mustangs earned a gutsy win at Sudan last week. Bovina now tries to keep that momentum going forward. … Ropes 22, Bovina 13

Smyer (0-6, 0-1) at New Home (4-3, 1-0), 7 p.m.

The Leopards are looking like the district favorites so far. … New Home 40, Smyer 18

Booker (1-5, 0-1) at Gruver (6-0, 1-0), 7 p.m.

The Greyhounds stay undefeated with a win over the Kiowas. … Gruver 42, Booker 14

Class 1A

Happy (4-2, 0-0) at White Deer (2-5, 1-0), 7 p.m.

The Cowboys had some extra time to prepare for this one, though they may not have needed it too much. … Happy 73, White Deer 38

Claude (2-5, 0-1) at Valley (4-3, 1-0), 7 p.m.

The Patriots have to keep putting away teams to have a chance at a playoff spot. Valley gets it done at home. … Valley 70, Claude 42

Saturday’s game

St. Jo (4-2) vs. Groom (4-2), Saturday, at Chillicothe.

One final test for the Tigers before they take a run at a playoff spot. They have to earn a victory in this one, Saint Jo is no joke. … St. Jo 58, Groom 45

— Tommy King
