Thursday’s games

Class 5A

Canyon (1-1) at Lubbock Estacado (1-1), 7 p.m.

The winner moves above .500 early in the season coming off quite different results last week, as Canyon routed Burkburnett for Todd Winfrey’s first win as head coach and Estacado lost a close one at Dumas. This one should be highly competitive, but the Eagles will gain some confidence by giving Winfrey his second straight win. … Canyon 24, Estacado 21

Class 1A

Claude (1-1) at Follett (2-0), 7 p.m.

The Mustangs have already shown big improvements this season, but the Panthers are on a different level. … Follett 62, Claude 36

Darrouzett (0-2) at McLean (2-0), 7 p.m.

The Tigers are riding a hot start into this matchup and should take care of business. … McLean 58, Darrouzett 28

Springlake-Earth (1-1) at Happy (2-0), 7:30 p.m.

Two of the top teams in Division 1 that are expected to make runs in December collide at the Cowboy Corral. The Wolverines have the size, but the Cowboys have speed and experience. … Happy 78, Springlake-Earth 69

Class 5A

Wichita Falls High (0-2) at Palo Duro (2-0), 7 p.m.

Lookie here which team is 2-0 opening the year,

It’s Coach Mims and those Dons playing with no fear.

Not since 2012 has Palo Duro opened 2 and oh!

Scoring 61 points last week, these Dons no ordinary Joe.

Now Old High is coming off a loss to Azle, no shame.

Now, it’s off to Odessa playing Friday Night Lights hoss.

One of the area’s top rivalries returns between teams who couldn’t have had more different results, as Pampa got coach Cody Robinson his first win at home against Dalhart and Borger suffered a shutout at Friona. Cornelius Landers had a huge game running the ball for Pampa last week, and Borger will be hard-pressed to stop him. … Pampa 40, Borger 21

Wichita Falls Hirschi (0-2) at Hereford (2-0), 7 p.m.
