The Happy Cowboys were one of the surprise teams from Week 1. [Tom Carver/ Press Pass Sports]

Friday’s games

Class 4A

Friona (1-0) at Borger (0-1), 7 p.m. This is good matchup in Week 2. Friona had a nice opening W over Brownfield. Borger played Hereford tough. Hmmm. Go with Borger’s overall team speed at home. … Borger 24, Friona 21

Canyon (0-0) at Burkburnett (0-1), 7 p.m. Finally, Canyon gets to play a game. “Burk” stumbled out of the blocks losing big. Canyon looks primed for a big year with the Jay to Jack combo a force. … Canyon 35, Burkburnett 20.

Canadian (1-0) at Iowa Park (1-0), 7 p.m. It’s a must see Week 2 matchup. Canadian opened last week looking in midsession form rolling off 77 points over West Texas. IP was equally impressive in the opposite way shutting out Holliday. Canadian passes this early test with QB Joshua Culwell staying hot. … Canadian 42, Iowa Park 28

Dumas (1-0) at Lubbock Estacado (0-1), 7 p.m. Man, Dumas jumped into 2020 last week just like 2019 blowing out Seminole 48-8. Estacado was upset by Midland Greenwood and wants no part of an 0-2 start. Can Dumas handle Estacado’s speed? I say yes and never bet against Dumas QB Spencer Williams. … Dumas 31, Estacado 28

Childress (1-0) at Perryton (0-0), 7 p.m. Childress opened my eyes and eyes across Texas putting up 68 points on Panhandle last week with QB Collin Bishop throwing for 500 yards and 6 TDs. Perryton’s debut under Coach Hab last week ended strangely with electrical issues canceling the game at halftime. Perryton trailed Dalhart 19-8 at the time. Looks to me like Childress just has too much firepower for Perryton. … Childress 42. Perryton 28.

Last week: 4-0 (1.000)

Season: 4-0 (1.000)

Class 3A

Hereford (1-0) at Bushland (1-0), 7 p.m. It’s the first time ever these two proud programs will clash, and it should be a dandy at Falcons Stadium. … Bushland 24, Hereford 13.

Pampa (1-0) at Dalhart (1-0), 7 p.m. These two teams couldn’t be more opposite in style. Can the Golden Wolves keep the Harvesters off the field will be the questions. … Pampa 28, Dalhart 23.

Olton (0-1) at Dimmitt (0-1), 7 p.m. Both teams are coming off tough Week 1 losses. Look for the Mustangs to bounce back on the road. … Olton 35, Dimmitt 12.

Hale Center (1-0) at Highland Park (0-1), 7 p.m. It wasn’t the opener the Hornets had in mind at Vega last Friday. Maybe the Hornets can show off some young talent and rebound. … Hale Center 27, Highland Park 16.

Lamesa (0-1) at Muleshoe (1-0), 7 p.m. The Mules showed much improvement, especially on the defensive side of the football despite a close loss to Sundown. With that said, I’m calling Muleshoe’s first victory in three years Friday night. … Muleshoe 20, Lamesa 7.

Wheeler at River Road (0-1), 7 p.m. What a matchup between when two of the Texas Panhandle’s best players toe-to-toe. Mustang running back Hesston Marshall, and Wildcats QB Lance Welps are worth the price of admission. … Wheeler 22, River Road 20.

Tulia (1-0) at Brownfield (0-1), 7 p.m. The Hornets are buzzing off a big W against Floydada last week. This is going to be a much stiffer challenge on the South Plains. … Tulia 26, Brownfield 23.

Class 2A

Spearman (1-0) at Sanford-Fritch, 7 p.m. Speed kills, and the Eagles may not have enough of it to keep up with the Lynx multiple athletes. … Spearman 42, S-Fritch 14.

Texhoma, Okla. (1-0) at Booker (0-1), 7 p.m. It maybe a rough night if the Kiowas struggle again offensively and struggle slowing down fullback Red Devils fullback Brit McQuitty. … Texhoma 40, Booker 13.

Bovina (1-0) at Farwell (1-0), 7 p.m. This is a rivalry of two towns separated by 11 miles. Both are gritty teams that play tough defense. Points will be at a premium. … Farwell 16, Bovina 13.

Vega (1-0) at Boys Ranch (0-1), 7 p.m. It’s another year of the great Oldham County Championship. The Longhorns have it owned this rivalry of late and I don’t see them slowing down anytime soon. … Vega 35, Boys Ranch 14.

Ralls (0-1) at Clarendon (1-0), 7 p.m. The Broncos are a ground and pound team that will wear down opponents throughout a game. The Jackrabbits better come prepared. … Clarendon 34, Ralls 16.

Panhandle (0-1) at Gruver (0-1), 7 p.m. Neither team had a good showing in their season debut. Expect the Panthers to bounce back through their talented offense. … Panhandle 38, Gruver 14.

Crosbyton (0-1) at Memphis (1-0), 7 p.m. Break out the Cyclones after a Week 1 thumping of Electra. Can they make it two in a row at home against the Chieftains? I say yes. … Memphis 20, Crosbyton 13.

Munday (1-0) at Shamrock (1-0), 7 p.m. The Irish keep it going with an impressive home showing against the Moguls. … Shamrock 28, Munday 14.

WT High (0-1) at Stratford (0-1), 7 p.m. This matchup lost a little luster after both teams took it on the chin last week. But expect a competitive, fun matchup at the new and improved E.L. Sam Bass Stadium. … WT High 30, Stratford 24.

Sunray (1-0) at Hooker, Okla. (0-0), 7 p.m. Look out for the Bobcats. Quarterback Tate DeBord and company could be a surprise team to keep an eye on. … Sunray 28, Hooker 21.

New Deal (1-0) at Wellington (0-0), 7 p.m. It’s a battle two heavy weight Class 2A squads in their respective Divisions. The Lions already picked up a win last week, while the untested Skyrockets open their season with tons of expectation. … Wellington 23, New Deal 20.

Last week: 14-4 (.777)

Season: 14-4 (.777)

Class 1A

Happy (1-0) at Nazareth (1-0), 7:30 p.m. The Happy Cowboys hold a 4-1 record against the rival Swifts in the last 5 seasons. It’s also a matchup we’re liable to see again come playoff time. Cowboys explosive running back Stetson Jamison is coming off a dominant week, I think it continues against the Swifts. … Happy 56, Nazareth 35.

Claude (0-1) at Lefors (0-1), 7:30 p.m. This will be a clash of two teams who didn’t get off to the start they wanted. Claude is still feeling those growing pains. Expect the Pirates experience to take over. … Lefors 48, Claude 34.

Groom (0-1) at Paducah (1-0), 7:30 p.m. The Tigers were a bit underwhelming in their debut game against Happy last week. Groom does have an opportunity to make up for its blunder last week against a stout Paducah team. The Dragons can put up points at a high rate, but I don’t think Groom can slow them down enough. … Paducah 75, Groom 64.

Silverton (1-0) at Hedley (1-0), 7:30 p.m.

Hedley is on a high coming off its first season-opening W since 2016. Silverton seems to have more firepower but one thing is guaranteed in this battle of mascots…. the Owls will win. … Silverton 44, Hedley 28.

Miami (0-1) at McLean (0-1), 7:30 p.m. It’s the not so long awaited return of former Tigers head coach Clint Linman to McLean, as he brings his new Warrior team to town. Coach Linman will get another win in McLean, but this time with a different team. … Miami 48, McLean 35.

White Deer (1-0) vs. Rankin (1-0), 7:30 p.m. In Whiteface. This is the game of the week in all of Six-man. The Bucks continue their gauntlet nondistrict schedule squaring off in what could be a state semifinal preview against No. 1 Rankin from Division I. The Bucks have a point to make in this game, but Red Devils are one of the fastest teams in football. … Rankin 77, White Deer 59.

Petersburg (1-0) at Valley (1-0), 7:30 p.m. The Patriots have some big momentum coming into Week 2 after a big win against Aspermont. The Buffaloes have a lot of speed with Kaden Parraz in the backfield. Valley’s defense may bend, but it will not break. … Valley 61, Petersburg 49.
