After an early scare, the Randall Raiders made sure to close strong and finish early to maintain their status in District 3-5A on Tuesday afternoon.
Randall fell behind at Palo Duro in the bottom of the first inning, as the Dons hadn’t won a game in 3-5A entering the day. But things didn’t change when it was all over, as the Raiders took the lead in the fourth inning and scored 12 runs in the last two innings to invoke the 10-run mercy rule and beat PD 18-5 in six innings to stay in third place in the district.
The Raiders (12-11-1, 5-2) jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the top of the first on a two-run single by Hunter Phillips. But Randall starter Hagen Shedd walked the first two batters and gave up a three-run home run to Caleb Bernal (who drove in all of Palo Duro’s runs) to make it 3-2.
Shedd was pulled without retiring a batter and relieved by Payton Bush, who pitched the rest of the way and picked up the win by giving up only two hits and striking out seven.
Randall tied it in the top of the third then took the lead for good with three runs in the fourth, started by an RBI single by Hayden Hollis. The Raiders then scored seven in the fifth to go up 13-3, as Preston Lowe’s two-run double was the big hit.
Palo Duro (4-16-1, 0-7) kept the game alive on Bernal’s two-run single in the bottom of the inning. But in the top of the sixth, Randall reattained the 10-run margin by scoring the first two runs of the inning on walks.

Tascosa blasts Caprock
Tascosa jumped on Caprock early, scoring six runs in the bottom of the first and cruising the rest of the way for an 11-2 victory to stay in fourth place in the district.
The Rebels (10-10, 4-3) took advantage of two walks, two hit batters and an error, as Ryne Wingate’s three-run double was the big blow in helping Tascosa take a 6-0 lead.
That was more than enough cushion for starting pitcher Logan Malleck. In 6 2/3 innings, Malleck gave up only three hits and struck out 10, as Caprock (2-17, 1-6) was only able to break through for a pair of runs in the second.

District 4-4A
Canyon stays perfect in district
In a matchup for the District 4-4A lead, Canyon went to Dumas and returned home undefeated – and in sole possession of the district lead – by getting the upper hand early and holding on for a 5-2 lead Friday afternoon.
Canyon (18-3, 4-0 in district) took a 2-0 lead in the top of the second inning on Brody Cook’s sacrifice fly and Jack McKay’s RBI single. It grew to 4-0 in the fourth when Tucker Livermore singled home Catch Brown and McKay’s ground ball which turned into an error to score Livermore.
That was enough support for Canyon starter Ryan McAffery, who went four innings for the win, striking out eight while giving up two hits and an unearned run. Jace Owen and Mason Alley combined to throw three scoreless innings of relief for the Eagles.
McKay, Brown, Livermore and Landon Finke all had two hits for Canyon. Dumas (10-9, 3-1) hung tough despite collecting only six hits, all singles.

Pampa outslugs Perryton
On a day conducive to offense, Pampa outlasted Perryton at the plate, as the Harvesters scored early and often to roll to a 15-8 victory.
Perryton actually struck first with three runs in the top of the first to take a 3-0 lead. But Pampa’s Sam Anguiano set the tone for things to come, hitting the first of two home runs, this one a two-run shot to make it 3-2.
The Rangers scored twice in the top of the second to make it 5-2, but Pampa (10-7, 2-2) scored six runs in the bottom of the inning to take the lead for good, as Cayson Steward’s three-run double gave the Harvesters the lead.
Pampa’s top of the lineup was especially efficient, as the first five batters in the order all had two hits to lead a 15-hit attack. Perryton (8-10, 1-3) had 12 hits in the loss.

Hereford routs Borger
In the district’s other game, homestanding Hereford routed Borger 12-2. With the win Hereford (6-10, 2-2) moved back to .500 in district play and into a tie for third place. Borger (2-17, 0-4) remained winless in last place.

District 1-3A
Early runs, solid pitch earns win for Falcons
Bushland earned their second straight district victory defeating Dimmitt 9-2 at home Thursday night.
Dimmitt jumped on the scoreboard in the first inning taking advantage of a two out rally and an error by Bushland shortstop Tanner Troxell.
Troxell and the Falcons answered in the following half inning. In the bottom of the first, the Bushland offense was able to tag Dimmitt pitcher Kobe Carpio for five runs. The first four Falcons reached base, then it was doubles by Lincoln Wise and Ryan Samford that gave Bushland a 5-1 lead.
Jose Medina had himself a day at the plate for Dimmitt going 2-for-2 with a walk and an RBI single in the sixth.
Offense has been on the rise for Bushland all season, but it was their stellar pitching performance by Coleman Junell that stole the show in this one. After giving up a walk and a hit in the first, Junell picked himself up and got back to work. The senior starter went on to pitch six complete innings giving up one run on five hits, and striking out 12 Bobcats hitters.

River Road rolls Tulia
River Road was able to pick up their first district win by beating Tulia, 15-3, Friday.
The Wildcats jumped all over the Hornets early thanks to a 9-run first inning.
Jason Quintanilla along with his team had the bats rolling in the win. Quintanilla drove in four runs on a 2-for-3 day at the dish including a double.
Luis Delgadeo and Clell Caldwell shared the highlights for the Wildcats on the mound with each giving up an earned run on three htis. Caldwell lead the way in strikeout, however with five K’s. They would both help out on the offensive end, as they both went deep in the game as well.

Dalhart shuts out Friona
The Dalhart Golden Wolves put it on Friona in a 17-0 shutout Friday in Dalhart.
Friona (1-9, 0-2) kept it close after the first inning only allowing the Golden Wolves one run to start the day. But in the top of the second, things began to look Dalhart’s way. After scratching across a run in the first , Dalhart went on to score at least five runs in the next three innings. Anthony Torres tore it up for the Golden Wolves (7-8, 1-1) collecting four RBIs on three base hits in his four plate appearances.
Pitcher Cale Forry tossed a complete game shutout for Dalhart, allowing six hits, and racking up nine strikeouts.
