On the court: Going back to last fall when Randall won the Class 4A team state tennis championship, Posey has been the link holding together the girls doubles teams. Posey was paired with freshman Kynley Craddock at the beginning of the school year as Randall’s No. 2 doubles team, and last week at the District 4-4A tournament, they more than lived up to their reputation. Posey teamed with Craddock to win all four matches in straight sets. They opened the tournament by beating Pampa’s Mackenzie Woods and Samantha Alderete 6-0, 6-0 and in the second round beat Canyon’s Cora Bell and Sam Melear 6-1, 6-1. After Posey and Craddock beat Karitza Bencomo and Dianney Ortiz of Dumas 6-2, 6-1, that set up a match with Randall teammates Kaitlyn Craddock (Kynley’s oldef sister) and Lizzy Hollabaugh, and Posey and Kynley won 6-1, 6-0 to claim the district title. Posey’s chemistry with the younger Craddock has allowed Kaitlyn Craddock and Hollabaugh to stay a duo and let both teams reach this week’s Region I-4A tournament.
Coach Darby Norman: “She’s such an intelligent tennis player. She chooses the right shot at the right time. She’s a great communicator and very encouraging with her partner. She’s never really loved the singles aspect but she’s taken time to master the art of doubles. That’s a tricky combination. That was Kynley with Landrey. A very quiet confidence is what (Posey) possesses. She definitely takes the reins in that doubles relationship. As you step up and progress, they have a goal of making it to state. They’re both really close doubles teams. We teach and coach doubles. (Craddock and Hollabaugh) beat Landrey and Kynley three out of five times this spring. In district Landrey and Kynley were ready to play and they definitely took advantage of it. I hope both of them will continue their good play in the regional tournament. I’m hoping they get that sixth visit.”
Posey: “I did not think the last two matches were going to be that dominant, but we really showed up and played really good tennis. I have a pretty good first serve which is easy for (CraddocK) to go and poach off and I’m good at returns and can put them away at the net. Coming into this year we knew we were chosen to be in the district championships. We knew Dumas would be a big challenge for us but we just played our best. We really worked on our communication. That was our big problem starting off. It’s helped us a lot. Going more at net we worked on a lot. As a freshman, she was pretty timid at going. I think with how comfortable we’ve gotten with each other on the court, it’s really helped. I think we just we need to play like we did our last two matches. As long as we keep that up we’ll be in the region championships.”
