On the court: Butler has shown her leadership and experience throughout the playoffs, and it has paid off as her Gruver Lady Hounds are riding a 12-game postseason win streak and find themselves back in the UIL Class 2A state tournament for a second straight year, and the third time in four seasons. The senior point guard and captain is the glue to the Lady Hounds with her scoring, rebounding, and defense she displays each and every game. Last week, during wins over Farwell, 51-39, then New Home, 63-50, and Panhandle, Butler played every minute averaging 11.3 points a game, pulling down six rebounds a contest and dished out five assists a night. On the season, the Oklahoma State commit is putting up 14.6 ppg, averaging 4.6 rebounds with 4.5 assists. Butler is also shooting 80 percent from the charity stripe.

Coach Trent Lankford: “Brenna does everything for us. She controls the ball; she controls the tempo of the game and she always has us in the right spot. She guards the best player on the other team, and she just has a high motor. She’s only 5-foot-6 but she plays like she’s 5-foot-10 because she rebounds well and does so much. Brenna is like having another coach on the floor and she is great to have. Plus, she’s just a tremendous young person.

Butler: “I just felt like I fulfilled my role when I’m asked. I knew I had to be more of a scorer this year, but in the Farwell game, handling the ball was very key and breaking the press. In the New Home and Panhandle games it was more about being a leader and keeping everyone calm. It’s been a different year than last year, but I feel it is more a little more fun. The maturity we’ve displayed and the way we are playing is great to see. I love my teammates.”
