On the hardwood: Rodriguez had a stellar week leading Highland Park to wins over Class 5A Caprock, a five-set thrilling victory against Canyon, followed by a sweep of Idalou on Saturday.

Thanks to the play of Rodriguez and her team the Lady Hornets are off to an outstanding 19-7 start to the season.

In those three wins, the senior was a force for the Lady Hornets combining for 56 kills to go with 33 digs, 10 aces two blocks and an assist.

Throughout her four years with the Lady Hornets, Rodriguez has knocked down over 300 kills in her career, and has been a two-time All-State selection.

Coach Matt Taylor: “Our team a really good summer and Nevaeh really bought into what we were doing. Being the leader she is, and her buying in was really important. She’s been playing lights out, and we have players stepping up around her taking the pressure off so she’s not doing it all by herself. Nevaeh is smart, sees the court well, and she plays great defense that most people may not notice.”

Rodriguez: “I think we’re a doing a lot better than we were at this point last season. This year I’ve played pretty good so far I feel, and my teammates have really been there to step up and we’re clicking well. We just want to get better and push our younger players, and just keep getting better.”
