District softball roundup: Caprock drops Tascosa, Canyon soars past Pampa

District 3-5A

Caprock run rules Tascosa

Caprock jumped all over Tascosa early on the way to a 19-2 run-rule win on Friday afternoon.

The Lady Longhorns didn’t waste any time putting up 13 runs in the bottom of the first inning. Leadoff hitter Grace Morales really set the tone going 2-for-3 at the dish with a homer and three RBIs. Teammate Kodi Shackelford was also 2-for-3 that included a double and a team-high four RBIs.

Caprock is now 10-6-1 overall and 1-1 in District 3-5A. Tascosa drops to 8-13, 0-2.

Amarillo High dominates Palo Duro

The Amarillo High Lady Sandies picked up their 20th win on the year with a 32-0 shutout over Palo Duro on Friday afternoon.

The Lady Sandies are now an impressive 20-1 overall and 2-0 in District 3-5A. The Lady Dons fall to 3-14, 0-1.

Tatem Pendergraft blistered Palo Duro pitching with a career-outing. Pendergraft went 5-for-6 including three home runs, a double with a total of 10 RBIs.

District 4-4A

Canyon soars past Pampa

Canyon rallied from a loss earlier in the week to rival Randall to take down Pampa 6-2 at home on Friday afternoon.

With the victory the Lady Eagles move to 4-2 in District 4-4A and 7-14 overall. The Lady Harvesters suffer their first loss of district falling to 5-1 in the league and 14-3 overall.

Canyon took the lead for good in the bottom of the fourth. With the game tied, 2-2, scoring two runs off Pampa miscues to go up 4-2. The Lady Eagles then got some insurance in the bottom of the sixth on a two-run homer from Amber Bertoni giving Canyon a 6-2 advantage. That was more than enough for Kylie Knowles who handcuffed Pampa hitters throwing a complete game with eight strikeouts.

Borger downs Dumas

Borger snapped a two-game losing skid by getting an eye-opening 7-6 thrilling win over Dumas on the road Friday evening.

The Lady Bulldogs rallied back from an early deficit to take the lead for good thanks to a four-run top of the fifth highlighted by a two-run blast from Adraya Loftis that gave Borger a 6-4 lead. That was part of a big afternoon for Loftis who went 3-for-4 with a total of two homers driving in three runs.

Borger is now 3-3 in District 4-4A and 11-13-1 overall. Dumas drops its first district game on the season moving to 5-1, and 20-4 overall.

West Plains blanks Perryton

Behind a terrific performance from pitcher Jaylen Kaps, the West Plains Lady Wolves won their second straight district game by shutting out Perryton 16-0 at home on Friday.

Kapps had Rangerette hitters off balance from start to finish tossing the program’s first ever no-hitter racking up 13 K’s in five innings of work. Desi Hernandez did the damage at the plate going 2-for-3 with two doubles and three RBIs. Teammate Lauren Egger was also 2-for-3 including a triple and a pair of RBIs.

West Plains has now won two straight district games moving to 2-4 in the league and 11-12-1 overall. Perryton falls to 5-11, 0-6.

Randall routs Hereford

Randall pounded out 17 hits on the way to a 13-1 run rule victory against Hereford at home on Friday.

The Lady Raiders improve to 4-2 in District 4-4A and 16-10 overall. Hereford is now 9-12 overall and 1-5 in the league.

Landri Holcomb had a double on a 3-for-4 day at the dish with three RBIs. Berkley Browder was stellar at the plate and in the circle. Offensivley, Browder was 3-for-3 with two doubles and three RBIs. In the circle, Browder tossed all five innings with six strikeouts.

District 1-3A

Bushland and River Road cruise 

It was a quick day of work for the Bushland Lady Falcons in a 27-0 shutout over Dalhart on Saturday.

Bushland improves its overall record to 17-6 overall and moves to 2-0 in District 1-3A. Dalhart falls to 4-9, 0-2.

Abby Howell went a perfect 4-for-4 for the Lady Falcons hitting three doubles with a homer totaling four RBIs, and Howell scored five times. Teammate Kylee Jordan also had four RBIs on a 4-for-4 afternoon slamming two home runs. Brylee Adams dominated in a quick three innings of work in the circle racking up seven K’s without giving up a hit.

Bushland wasn’t the only one to dominate on Saturday. River Road pummeled Tulia 23-1. The Lady Wildcats are now 13-8 overall and stay unbeaten in district at 2-0.

Ava Sharp pitched a strong five innings allowing only one hit with seven strikeouts. At the plate, Sharp was also superb going 3-for-5 with an RBI and scored three times. Catcher Sidnee Kane was a perfect 4-for-4 with a homer and four RBIs.

In the other District 1-3A clash on Saturday, Canadian downed Dimmitt, 8-6.
