District softball roundup: Caprock crushes Tascosa, 4-4A remains tight at the top

Caprock used its big bats to ease past Tascosa for a 20-4 run-rule win at the Lady Rebel Softball complex on Tuesday afternoon.

The Lady Longhorns showed their power hitting eight total home runs in the victory and pounded out 17 hits. Daisy Fuentes hit a pair of homers, as did Jaylen Zuniga. Zuniga tallied a game-high five RBIs for the contest followed by Fuentes with three. Kiona Rios, Annalyse Gonzalez, Kierra Chavez and Grace Morales also added to the homer parade. Chavez also earned the win in the circle throwing all five innings allowing two earned runs with six strikeouts.

Caprock (13-7-1) clinches a Class 5A playoff spot while staying two games back of Amarillo High in the District 3-5A race at 4-2. Tascosa falls to 9-16, 1-5.

Amarillo High cruises past Palo Duro

Amarillo High clinched a share of the District 3-5A championship thanks to a 21-0 run-rule shutout over Palo Duro on Tuesday afternoon.

The Lady Sandies stay hot moving to 25-1 overall and a perfect 6-0 in district. Palo Duro drops to 3-18, 0-5.

Danae Lopez went deep in the fourth inning and finished with three RBIs. Teammate Tatem Pendergraft also added three RBIs.

District 4-4A

Canyon soars past Borger

The Canyon Lady Eagles went on the road and picked up a key 8-2 victory against Borger during a District 4-4A clash.

The Lady Eagles (12-14 overall) stay in a first-place tie in the district standings with Pampa (17-4) and Randall (21-10) at 9-2. Borger (14-15-1) falls a game behind Dumas for the fourth and final playoff spot at 6-5 with three games remaining in the regular season.

Canyon broke the open thanks to a five-run third highlighted by a Kamryn Jackson two-run double putting the Lady Eagles up 6-0. That was more than enough for pitcher Kylie Knowles. Knowles was dealing on Tuesday holding Borger to two hits while racking up 14 K’s. Maison Guerra was key for Canyon going 2-for-4 including a double and an RBI.

Randalll gets season sweep of West Plains

The Randall Lady Raiders didn’t look past rival West Plains before a showdown with Canyon on Friday. Randall took care of business by taking down the Lady Wolves by a 6-1 count at home on Tuesday afternoon.

Randall (21-10) moves to 9-2 in District 4-4A staying in a first-place tie with both Canyon (12-14) and Pampa (17-4). West Plains drops to 11-17-1, 2-9.

Pitcher Berkley Browder was strong in the circle tossing six scoreless innings allowing only one hit with six strikeouts. Browder even helped her cause at the plate with an RBI double.

Pampa beats up Perryton 

As expected, the Pampa Lady Harvesters had no issues going on the road and getting a 20-0 shutout over Perryton in a District 4-4A matchup on Monday afternoon.

The Lady Harvesters move to 17-4 overall and stay in a first-place tie in the district with Canyon and Randall at 9-2. Perryton (5-16) is still looking for its first league win dropping to 0-11.

Mckinley Daniels went 2-for-3 at the plate for Pampa driving in two runs and scoring a pair. Maecie Hawthorne cleared the bases with a three-run triple, and her sister, Hallie, tossed five scoreless innings in the circle racking up an eye-opening 12 strikeouts.

Dumas downs Hereford

Thanks to 12 runs in the first two innings, the Dumas Demonettes were able to run away from Hereford for a 17-0 shutout on Tuesday afternoon.

Dumas (22-7) is one game ahead of Borger (14-15-1, 6-5) for the fourth and final playoff spot in District 4-4A at 7-4 with three games remaining. Hereford’s struggles continue falling to 10-16, 2-9.

Briana Vargas had the pop at the plate for Dumas going 2-for-5 with a homer and three RBIs, as teammate Amery Casanova piled up a game-high five RBIs with two doubles.

District 1-3A

Bushland, River Road stay hot 

Bushland and River Road had no issues on Tuesday with both teams coming away with dominating victories.

Bushland blanked Dalhart 16-0 while River Road slammed Tulia 16-4. The Lady Falcons stay in first place of District 1-3A at 7-0 and are now 22-6 overall. The Lady Wildcats are a game back of Bushland at 6-1 and 17-9 overall.

Chayney Snelson blasted a homer and added a double with an RBI for Bushland while pitcher Brylee Adams thew five one-hit innings tallying 10 K’s.

Sidnee Kane led the Lady Wildcats going 2-for-3 with a double and a home run totaling five RBIs.
