District softball roundup: Canyon clinches share of 4-4A title, Amarillo High, Bushland win district crowns

Canyon scored two first inning runs and made that early advantage standup getting a huge 2-1 victory over rival Pampa in a key District 4-4A showdown on Tuesday afternoon at the Lady Harvesters Softball Complex.

With the win the Lady Eagles (14-14) clinch a share of the district championship at 11-2 and can claim the outright league title with a victory over Hereford on Friday. Pampa (18-5) falls into a second-place tie with Randall (22-11) at 10-3 with one game remaining.

Canyon was able to get to Pampa pitcher Kynleigh Kirby thanks to a big first inning. After a Mikaila Gilliland single and stolen base, teammate Mason Guerra slapped a single left field that scored Gilliland putting the Lady Eagles up 1-0. Moments later, Canyon tacked on to that lead when Kylie Knowles singled that scored pinch runner Ashlynn Reyna giving the Lady Eagles a 2-0 advantage. That was more than enough for Knowles who did her job and then some in the circle. Knowles went all seven innings hancuffing the Lady Harvesters to four hits allowing only one earned run and running up 11 K’s. Despite the loss, Kirby did settle down throwing a complete game for Pampa with five strikeouts.

Randall puts away Hereford 

The Randall Lady Raiders scored seven runs in the final two innings to grab a 13-4 victory at Hereford on Tuesday afternoon.

The win was a big one for the Lady Raiders (22-11) who pull into a second-place tie with Pampa (18-5) at 10-3 in District 4-4A. Hereford slips to 10-18 overall and 2-11 in the league.

Anberlin O’Dell had a great afternoon feasting on Lady Whiteface pitching going a perfect 5-for-5 delivering two home runs totaling five RBIs. Teammate Berkley Browder went 3-for-4 with a homer of her own and a pair of RBIs.

Dumas clinches playoff spot 

Dumas is headed back to the postseason after getting a lopsided 14-1 win over Borger on Tuesday afternoon.

The Demonettes, who had a two-game lead over Borger for the fourth and final playoff spot heading into Tuesday, move to 9-4 in District 4-4A and 24-7 overall. Borger drops to 14-17-1, 6-7.

Star Cortes did the damage for Dumas going 3-for-4 including a double, a triple, finishing the game with five RBIs. Cortes also pitched all five innings with four strikeouts. Teammate Vivian Morales smacked a three-run homer.

West Plains pummels Perryton 

The West Plains Lady Wolves have now won two in a row after getting a 22-5 lopsided win at Perryton on Tuesday.

Bella Wineberg was the story for West Plains as the first baseman went 2-for-4 with a double driving in four runs and scored four times. Kaydence Singletary did her part as well with a 2-for-4 day at the dish with a double and three RBIs.

The Lady Wolves improve to 4-9 in District 4-4A and 13-17-1 overall. Perryton falls to 5-18, 0-13.

District 3-5A

Amarillo High claims 3-5A crown 

A five-run first inning set the tone for the Amarillo High Lady Sandies during a 15-3 run-rule win over rival Tascosa on Tuesday.

The Lady Sandies are the outright District 3-5A champions with the win moving to 7-0 in the league and an eye-opening 27-1 overall. Tascosa falls to 10-17, 2-8.

AHS slugger Danae Lopez homered in the win as teammate Tatem Pendergraft slammed two doubles with three RBIs. Amelia Tietz and Kinsler Hanson also homered for the Lady Sandies.

District 1-3A

Bushland wins outright 1-3A title 

Bushland powered out 26total hits with seven home runs on the way to a 30-1 run-rule win over Canadian on Tuesday afternoon.

The victory gives the Lady Falcons the outright District 1-3A championship as Bushland improves to 24-6 overall and 9-0 in the league. Canadian (6-21) falls to 3-6 in district and are now in a fourth-place tie with Dimmitt (9-9, 3-6).

Brylee Adams does what she does best going 3-for-4 with two homers, and two doubles finishing with five RBIs and scored three times. Teammate Chloe Cochran added a home run with a triple tallying four RBIs.

River Road run-rules Dimmitt 

River Road made quick work of Dimmitt by getting a 23-2 home victory on Monday afternoon.

The Lady Cats have secured the No. 2-seed out of District 1-3A moving to 7-2 and 18-10 overall. Dimmitt (9-9) is tied with Canadian at 3-6 for the fourth and final playoff spot with one game remaining.

Ava Sharp had a monster effort with a homer, two singles and a double finishing 4-for-4 at the dish with a total of six RBIs for the Lady Wildcats. Teammate Carolyn Koval added a 3-for-4 outing with a double, a triple and four RBIs. Koval also tossed all five innings allowing only two hits without a run tallying 11 strikeouts. In the other district clash, Tulia beat Dalhart, 5-4.
