District Cross Country roundup: Tascosa boys, Randall girls win 3-5A; Canyon girls dominate

The Tascosa boys and Randall girls came out on top to capture the District 3-5A Cross Country Meet ran on a muddy, sloppy 5K track at Rick Klein Park on Friday.

Course conditions were in rough shape after a full week of ice and snow in the Amarillo-area.

The Rebels scored 25 points, and placed five individuals in the top 10 led by Kaden Navarrete who placed third running a 18:57.16. Amarillo High’s Isaac McGill Won the 3-5A individual race clocking an 18:10.13. The Sandies join Tascosa to qualify for the Region I-5A Meet set for Nov. 9 at Mae Simmons Park in Lubbock.

On the girls side, Randall tallied 24 points, while placing four in the top 10. Lady Raider junior Ariyah Gomez not only led Randall to a district title but she also won the individual title thanks to a 21:53.92. Randall and Amarillo High (34 points) have each advanced to the Region I-5A Meet.

Canyon girls, Perryton boys take district crown

As expected the Canyon girls dominated the District 4-4A Meet to win another district title at Canyon High School on Friday.

Canyon‘s Abree Winfrey ran a strong 2-mile, leaving the competition behind to win the individual side and help her squad to the district title. The talented sophomore clocked an 11:48.67 which was 11 minutes faster than second place finisher Lexi Maul of Pampa (11:59.11). Breanna Stuart, Hanna Stuart, Ellie Brown Rebekah Huddleston and Seanna Mccrummen also placed in the top 10.

Dumas will join Canyon to qualify for the Region I-4A Meet set for Nov. 10 at Mae Simmons Park in Lubbock.

During the boys race, it was Perryton coming away with the district championship scoring 20 points. Canyon also advanced to join the Rangers at the Region I-4A Meet. Five Perryton runners placed in the top 10 with Adrian Cecineros placing second with a 16:38.46. Eagles standout Sam Ashley won the individual meet pacing a 15:45.48.

Spearman girls, Dalhart boys 1-3A champs

Not only was the District 4-4A Cross Country Meet held at Canyon High School on Friday, but the District 1-3A Meet also took place.

The Dalhart boys team along with the Spearman girls highlighted the meet with both taking home district titles. The Lynxettes (28 points) held off Bushland (39 points) by only 12 points as both qualified for the Region I-3A Meet set for Nov. 9 at Mae Simmons Park in Lubbock.

Braylen Lusby won the individual meet as well as being a part of the team win running s 12:56.00. Lusby was part of Spearman athletes to place in the top 10.

On the boys side, Dalhart (39 points) barely held off Bushland (41 points) by two points to bring home a thrilling district championship.

Both are now headed to the Region I-3A Meet.

Landry Judd of Dalhart placed third with a time of 17:46.00. River Road’s Crawford Kiser punched his ticket to regional by winning the individual championship clocking a 17:04.61.
