Randall routs Springtown

The Randall Raiders took advantage of a week off after a shocking loss to get back in winning form in the bidistrict playoffs Friday night.

Using a tough defense, Randall dominated Springtown and rolled to a 31-7 victory at Snyder to advance to next week’s area round. The Raiders (8-3) will face Lubbock Estacado next Friday at Happy State Bank Stadium.

Two weeks earlier, Randall lost to previously winless Hereford 35-24 after clinching the No. 1 seed from District 3-4A Division I. The Raiders got that bad taste out of their mouths quickly against Springtown.

They gave up only 199 yards of total offense, and Springtown’s only score came on a 75-yard play in the second quarter.

Randall’s offense was efficient in the win. Senior Riley Davis ran for 121 yards and a touchdown on 28 carries, and Nathan White threw two touchdown passes to Nathan Baker.

The defensive highlight came in the third quarter when Randall’s Ilir Haliti forced a fumble and returned it for a touchdown to put the game away for the Raiders

Canyon rolls over Burkburnett

It was a perfect week for Canyon ISD to open the playoffs, as Canyon used a running game by committee to advance.

The Eagles ran for 352 yards in rolling to a 42-14 win over Burkburnett at Childress. Canyon (10-1) will face Brownwood next Friday in the area round in Midland.

Burkburnett (7-4) was attacked by various sources on the ground against Canyon. Colt Cruth led the Eagles with 122 yards on 16 carries, the latest running star Canyon has developed since losing quarterback Derrek Clements to a shoulder injury, Chris LaBue added 98 yards and two touchdowns on six carries.

Dumas falls to Wichita Falls

Dumas made an uncharacteristically early exit from the postseason, as Wichita Falls took a late lead and eliminated the Demons 15-10 at Lubbock’s Lowrey Field.

The Demons (6-5) took a 10-6 lead into the fourth quarter after Emmanuel Ibanez intercepted a pass in the third quarter and took it in for a touchdown. But that was as good as it got for Dumas.

Wichita Falls (7-4) took the lead in the fourth quarter on a 1-yard run by Cameron Gould. The Coyotes got some insurance midway through the quarter on Patricio Maldonado’s 32-yard field goal.

Dumas struggled mightily offensively, picking up only 153 yards.

Class 5A Division I

Sandies get by Parkland on the road

Amarillo High showed that it’s playing its best football of the season at the perfect time, as the Sandies won on the road at El Paso Parkland 38-20 to advance.

Quarterback Mason Graham was sharp, completing 20-of-25 passes for 231 yards and three touchdowns. He also ran for 78 yards on 12 carries.

The Sandies (6-5) advance to the area round and will play Midlothian next week.
